hybrids not a good deal ???
Published Sep. 24, 2009Views: 422
I recently began researching a new car purchase for my business. I transport Dialysis patients from Wilson and other communities to our Cary office and average about 2,000 miles a week (for real!)
Logging that many miles, I wanted to find a car that gets great mileage, but has ample rear-seat room for my passengers.
Considering a new Hybrid, I studied the cost factors of the Toyota Camry Hybrid. NOT a GOOD DEAL !
The Hybrid model cost over $7,000 more than the regular Camry. And according to the figures on Fueleconomy.gov, the cost to drive each for 25 miles is:
Camry Hybrid: $1.90
Reg. Camry: $2.48
Factored out over 200,000 miles, the Fuel Cost Savings of the Hybrid is $4640, which is not even close to the $7,000 premium you pay for the car!
So....what's the point? Yes, the carbon footprint is a better, but $7,000 price difference? Automobile manufacturers need to get real !
