two movie reviews

I figured I would bust out a couple of movie reviews (got the idea from Angelia’s newsletter). These two have been out for a while, but maybe you are looking for something to do over the weekend and have not seen them yet.
The first is Inglorious Bastards which is another movie brought to us by Quentin Tarantino. If you have seen even one Tarantino move then you know that violence is going to be a big part of the show. If you are bothered by violent movies then you would not like any of his movies anyway. I must say that Inglorious Bastards is one of the least violent of Tarantino’s movies that I have watched. Personally I am not into violent movies, but his movies also feature some just amazing dialogue. For example, in Reservoir Dogs where Tarantino himself gives a twisted interpretation of Madonna’s Like A Virgin or all the dialog between Samuel Jackson and John Travolta in Pulp fiction. This trend continues in Bastards with Brad Pitt delivering one great line after another in his version of a Tennessee country drawl. “We ain’t in the prisoner takin business. We’re in the killin Nazi business and cousin business is a boomin.”
The movie is long, running just over two hours but it doesn’t seem like two hours. I thought the movie would be just about the unit led by Brad Pitt’s character, but that is not the case. The movie has two major plot lines going, of which only one is the Bastards themselves.
If you don’t mind the cartoonish level of violence at times and the complete disregard of actual historical events then Brad Pitt’s character is worth the price of admission alone.
Now for something completely different; Julie & Julia. This movie is like two movies rolled into one. One part follows the legendary foody Julia child as she begins her journey of revolutionizing cooking in America by bringing French cooking to the American table. The other part follows another lady named Julie who attempts to jump start herself out of a rut by cooking every recipe in Julia Child’s book Mastering the Art of French Cooking and blogging about it.
Meryl Streep plays the famous chef Julia Child and she nails it. She is just fantastic in this movie. In fact, she is almost too good. The other plot line that follows Julie as she cooks and blogs her way through Child’s book, seems very weak next to Streep’s Julia. For me it got to the point that the blogging plot line was little more than an interruption to the flow of the story of Julia Child. By the end of the movie, I really wished it was only about Julia Child because the actors were just better and the story was just better.
I am not saying that it is a bad movie. I am saying Streep was just that good. I would recommend it just to see storyline about Julia Child. The other story line is not bad, but it is like putting chopped steak next to a fine filet.
Worth the price of admission? ABSOLUTLY!

That's what I always do (although I'll buy it,not rent). I know that if I like a movie, especially if it's by a writer/director I like, I'm going to buy the dvd anyways. Therefore, in order not to feel like I'm spending my money twice, I wait for the DVD. Sometimes the waiting is hard.

If you are referring to me I didn't mean to sound harsh. I just thought it was funny. Wasn't sure from your wording if you relized that he had reviewed it or not.

I love Meryl Streep so it's no surprise that she comes across well. I am also one that waits for the DVD or for it to come out on TV .... some of the movies are coming out on TV alot sooner than I remember they used to do that -- or, I'm getting older and time just seems to be going by quicker ;-)
