your "almost name"
Published September 7, 2009Views: 888
Anyone else have a "Almost Name"? You know, when your parents looked at you, with love and undying affection, and say...
"We almost named you Hazel? or Clyde? or Bertha?"
My almost name was Dorothy. It was my grandmother's name. Actually, it was really Dorothea, but they "Americanized" it to Dorothy. I could have been Dorothy Elaine...
I would be a unmarried librarian with a penchant for steamy romance novels, bad Lifetime Channel movies, and cats named "inky, Blinky, Winky and Miss Marples"

My ex husband thought we should carry on the tradition and name our son Harmon Killebrew (a slugger for the Senators and the Twins, for those of you who are not baseball fans). I put my foot down, and he is named Ian Christopher, for which he owes me.

And my mother's name was in the US records as Betty Mary, but when they found her birth certificate, it was Elizabeth Mary. My grandparents spoke only Hungarian back then, and the Hungarian name for both is the same (Erzsike).
God bless.
