before you have a cow, let me explain.

The resignation of Van Jones from the Obama administration was due primarily to the fact that Washington, DC is made up of the (Republicans and Democrats) caught and the uncaught, and he got caught.
The title (czar) of Mr. Jones and about thirty others like him is what bothers people of my age. I know ‘czar’ in this case is being used very informally and is a legitimate term for his and others position. But read on and you will better understand why the ‘geezers’ are all ‘wee-weed’ up over the word ‘czar’.
As a child going to school in the late fifties and through the sixties it was common for the conversation amongst the kids walking home from school to be about bomb shelters, attack drills at school, Russia and communism, (we didn’t call it the Soviet Union) and the fact that we could be under attack at any moment. The short of it, we lived in constant fear.
Although the title of czar (shortened from Caesar) has been pretty much officially retired since the early 1900’s, the term was still associated informally with the (at that time) evil Russian Empire and the fact that they could bring great harm to our country and most importantly our person.
Our schools today have seen and are experiencing some horrific incidents. In comparison to the days of the “Cold War”, I know the fear of some unbalanced student brandishing a firearm or worse using it is in the minds of every parent and student at some point. We seldom live totally without fear, as history has taught us that awful things can and do occur at random times.
I don’t know whose idea it was to use the moniker of ‘czar’ for these special advisors to the President, but it will not endear the older generation to the current President. Oh I guess it was cute enough to call the guy put over Chrysler and GM during their bankruptcy (and even now) the ‘car czar’ because it rhymes and is kind of catchy, but it stings the older ears of a lot of people.
My personal disclaimer:
I did not vote for Obama, but to paraphrase his words “I won”, therefore I am trying to look at the bright side. There have been other Presidents during my lifetime that were not my choice, but that has never stopped me from respecting the Office of the President of the United States and dearly loving the Red White and Blue.
The biggest difference this time is the pace at which this administration has grabbed on to everything and tried to change it all at once. President Obama campaigned on “Change” and one would have to give it to him he has stuck to that promise.
Then someone came along and threw in the whole ‘czar’ thing and it has made all this rapid change and ‘newspeak’ little hard to swallow.
If change is necessary, it must be change whereby everybody (or minimally the majority) at least feels the change is going to be good for him or her. To change for the sake of change or to change merely to better some, probably is not going to happen, at least to the extent that the current administration would like.
According to all the political (both sides of the aisle) talk and media ranting and raving we must be severely screwed up. If we are in the shape everybody says we’re in then change is mandatory. However, it has taken us 233 years to get in the condition we’re in and this President or any other person is not going to change (or fix) it all in 4 or 8 years.
I know this post will mean little to some of the younger readers, but please try to understand that ‘czar’ and anything that resembles socialism or heaven forbid communism cuts deep with the boomers. The boomers aren’t looking for a pass, I’m just sayin’.

I always spelled it Tsar, as in imperialist Russia circa 1547 to 1917.
There was a reasion the Russians got rid of the Tsars. They outlived their usefulness and served no purpose.

Change is good and necessary, but as you say, it should be for the good of most and those who are proposing it, should atleast be able to explain it with consistancy.

Anyway, the Obama administration is not doing itself any favors installing czars.

The term 'czar' is innocent enough by itself - - coupled with what could be construed as a Government power grab, it goes down hill fast.
I know some will want to make this a Bush / Nixon / Ford did it thing - - that's not the point. Czar has risen to a whole new level lately with the appointment of advisors or czars without any consideration given to background or character.
It doesn't matter WHO appoints these people - - the term is less than inviting.

Exactly. And I agree, a better term could be used.
