aug 26th - national dog day

Yes - that is probably the worst hack job of editing a photo. But yes, those are my two babies. Meeko on the left - Husky/ Shep is the dog we recently took in back in April.
Meeko had been abandoned early on before he socialized with a pack. He's been a challenge, but everyday gets better and we love him dearly. We found him in a field where he had been living in construction debris.
Nala, the terrier mix on the right, has been with us since 1997. She was 1 year old (just like Meeko) when we adopted her. She was left, abandoned on Ft. Bragg, wandering around alone.
In hard economic times, usually the first to go are the pets. people realize the cost they are extending on food, vet bills, etc. I can't even fathom it, because for me, these are my children. It would be like telling my own child, I can't afford you, go away.
I know I don't have room for more, though if I could make a rescue farm profitable, that's what I'd love to do for the rest of my life.
But I just ask that everyone remember, August 26th is National Dog Day. If you can spare, even just a little- buy a bag of dog food at your next grocery store and donate it to the SPCA. Anything you can do is always helpful.
You would be astounded to realize how much just your spare change, my spare change and others - at how fast that little can add up.
Help save a lost soul.....

There are so many people giving up their pets because of the rut we are in right now.
People moving into places that dont allow pets.
A LOT are getting dumped in the streets (actually seen on craigslist last week a lady that posted she dumped her dog off and named the intersection)
Nice huh?
A lot of these dogs that are used to being fed and taken care of either end up hit by cars, or even worse, turn ferral and run with packs and as some of you may of seen the story of the dogs that killed a couple on the news.
Very sad.
NOT thier fault for the way they turn out.

I don't to pick out anyone specific place when I mentioned the SPCA. It's just the most common.
I think if you know of any animal rescue. My girlfriend loves the German Shephard rescue and a I have a co-worker that does Lab Rescue.
I love animals, but I'm honestly a dog person. When I look at my babies eyes and their reactions to everything around them, you can't convice me that dogs don't have feelings and souls. they hurt, feel rejection, pain, abandoment, just like we do to a degree.
I didn't want another dog when we got Meeko, but God had other plans when he put that beautiful baby in my path. I can't have kids... so these are mine.
I take in the world of them if I could.
