just curious....
Published Aug. 14, 2009Views: 532
You know, I'm very curious about several things that are going through my head.
Forgive me, but my mind really thinks like this ... like a snowball - it starts on one thing and moves quicly through several and none may have any relation to the others....
I've seen people on here, attempting to bash or make a point with "where were all the protestors during Bush, if you were so keen on fixing the health care"? or something like that, even related to fiscal issues. Peronsally I see it as a rediculous point, primarily - just because you don't see it, didn't mean it didn't happen. Just because it's not front page news didn't mean it didn't happen.
But that got me thinking, now that we have a Democratic President, where are all the war protestors? Our troops are not only still in Iraq (though the President promised one of the first things he was going to do was bring them home), we are now deploying more to Afghanistan. So nothing has changed in the wolrd of war - but instead it has been increased - but I don't see any liberal or conservative war protesters anymore protesting the continuing war. I wonder why... just a curious thought.
But on that, why is it when liberals (and even some conservatives) protested the war - some were roudy, rude, loud, violent, obnoxious, crude, belligerant, etc.... it was all ok! They had freedom of speech and had a right to protest. It was "patriotic" to show your disdain for the President and his actions.....
But now, a large group who are doing the exact same thing - protesting something they believe in - it's NOT ok. They have no right to be heard. They are called Nazi's, and other horrible names and everything is being done (even directly from the President's mouth - condeming these protestors and generalizing them) with everything possible to not be heard and being shunned...... What is the difference.
Yeah - I know, there's going to be some smartazz who is going to say "well conservative Bush lovers said the same things about the war protestors". Ok, point taken. So what your telling me is that your belief in what they were doing is ok - protesting, but now someone doing the same thing you protected others for doing, it's not ok and your going to act like the 5 year old children you were just condemming?? Why are you not above it ... and protecting the rights of people's freedom of speech?
Why are you not even listening? Why are you following along like sheep and making up anything possible, including over generalizing just so you WON"T have to hear what they ahve to say?
By doing so, you have officially become the very thing you condem....... just curious.....
But this goes both ways in my head, considering the very nature of humans as a whole, we tend to act like children or worse, eager for our "revenge" and always ready to point our fingers. I too have my bad moments, my passionate beliefs fall prey to weakness.
How could conservatives, not expect this backlash. Just like the liberals are saying that the only reason we are protesting the health care bill because we're bitter about losing the election (which is not only absurd - only the truly stupid would make a comment or even believe that)........ they are eager to shove in our faces the very condemnation they faced for the last 8 years. While most liberals claim to be "better educated" and "more intellegent" clearly they aren't above ignoring their core beliefs to afford everyone the same "freedom of speech" when they have a chance to give back some of the bitterness they had to deal with. You seriously had to see this coming...... just thinking - tit for tat.
I dont' think that's a liberal or consverative thing.. i think that's a human nature "i've got the bigger peepee" thing.
I guess what gets me, is that everyone is fighting over who has the bigger peepee, and everyone is fighting to be right. When to me, no one is really right or wrong. Take the health care bill for example. There are some good points in the bill and some bad. If Obama would stop being so dead set against listening to anyone and over generalizing the opponents into something they are not, he might actually hear something worth while and REAL progress could be made ........ just thinking outloud

I am registered unaffiliated, but I am beginning to wonder, with what I've seen and heard over the past 10 years, if many Democrats aren't just crybabies.
I'm sure I'll learn if that's so here. ;o)
God bless.

I support a civil debate on the issues, without yelling to drown out the opposition. I don't call names. Although I lean towards the Democratic party, I'm registered unaffiliated because I don't sign up for a group unless I can agree with everything they stand for.
By the way, there are still protests against the war, against the death penalty, and for or against many other causes. They just don't get the press lately.

Republican, Democrats, Liberals and Conservatives are ALL guilty of maintaining double standards!

LOL I know, it was sort of the point.
But very good comments OtB and I agree with you. I honestly don't know where I fit in the "labeling". 90% of my social beliefs are liberal, while about the same of my fiscal beliefs are conservative. I truly do see and understand both sides (my husband calls me a pragmatist).
But I'm just as guilty of being belligerant. just last night my husband and I were disagreeing on an issue. He kept interrupting me and wouldn't let me finish my thought. I found myself yelling at him to STFU and let me finish my sentence. I'm not proud of that. It was wrong...
I have to remind myself all the time, yelling isn't going to make anyone hear you more, in fact, your almost guarenteed they will NOT hear you anymore at all

Now, I was against the Patriot Act and this disturbs me just as much. But I haven't heard any outrage over it from anyone yet... not even the hard core Patriot Act opponents...
