why are you here?

Holycow has had me missing home, on the gulf coast and all the wonderful food and interestingly enough, I've been having this conversation with my husband over the last two weeks.
So, I'm taking a break from political blogs, etc and thought I'd do something a little different (though I admit I've slacked HARD CORE on my Healthy Lifestyle blogs - sorry)
With all the politics of NC and everything else going on, my husband and I have been talking and asking ourselves - do we really wan to stay in NC?
Neither of us is from here. Neither of us really chose to be here. OK - actually in all fairness, I did when I chose to stay and be with him. He was stationed here in NC while in the military. After his divorce, he stayed because he wanted to be near his daughter. Then his daughter came to live with us and we were not going to be cruel and move her away from her mother.
Now, the youngster is grown up - she'll be 20 in Oct. Nothing is really holding us here.
We've talked about going back to Texas or even Washington state (where he grew up).
But I have to say, that what has made us completely forget moving and is keeping us here? hockey....
Of all the things... I found it hillarious that the first question we both asked was, could we do without our hockey? Yes, we're junkies in the same way that some of you are for NASCAR, or Football, or Baseball.
I refuse to root for Dallas Stars, LOL so I couldn't see going to Texas, and any city I'd be interested in didn't have hockey. Seattle doesn't have a hockey team either LOL.. and while California does... ewww!
Only AFTER we both talked about the hockey issues, did we finally start saying things like: Well, Raleigh is really small compared to where we're both from. Neither of us want big city living again. Traffic here is a joke (ok - not if your in it sometimes) when you compare it to where we've been...... I love that I can get to the mountains or the beach in a very reasonable amount of time, unlike my birthplace, I'd still be in the same city after driving 1.5 hours - though I do miss the gulf coast fishing, I get that everytime I go home to visit.
And the list just kept going of all the reasons why we like it here. But I still found it funny, that we didn't even bother to consider those reasons until after we both realized we didn't want to leave the convenience of hockey. Raleigh is by far the best hockey town.
You don't have to go on waiting lists to get season tickets (like some places you have to wait for someone to die to get them). The other city venues are larger cities, or too far north for our taste (cold weather... uh no thanks).
So when you boil it down to the real reason my husband and I are staying in Raleigh? The honest truth? Hockey. As stupid and rediculous as that sounds.
What keeps you here?

After that, I believe my career will likely take me to the Northeast or the West coast.
I'd like to return to South Florida or Hawai'i, but the medical research gigs aren't so abundant in fun, touristy places

My step-aunt lives in Hawaii, can't remember which city. Her husband was military stationed there doing a high clearance job. Then he retired and they hired him back as a contractor at triple digit salary LOL!
They bought a home in West Palm Beach, FL - stayed for 2 years and couldn't stand it - moved back to Hawaii.

After my first wife left and my father died, I stayed to take care of my grandmother. I always said that when she passed, I was going home to florida. WELL, silly me, I should have learned long ago never to tell God what I have planned, because a good friend of mine introduced me to my current wife (11 years now) and we married 5 years before my grandmother passed. Now I'm stuck, because she has NEVER lived anywhere but here.
