Work is beginning on the I-40 widening between Jones Franklin Rd. and Wade Avenue. Here's the latest from DOT:
The N.C. Department of Transportation will install barriers along the westbound side of the Interstate 40 median beginning at Jones Franklin Road and working west on Monday, Aug. 10 at 9 p.m., weather permitting.
The median barrier installation is a part of the project to widen 6.2 miles of I-40 from Wade Avenue (S.R. 1728) to east of the Jones Franklin Road (S.R. 5039) bridge. The project is anticipated to be complete by June 30, 2011.
During this installation, the left lane of I-40 West will be closed between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. Monday through Friday, until 9 a.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. on Sunday.

It's only 20 years late.
Only idiots like the NCDOT would have 4 lanes of I-40 funnel to 2 lanes and then wonder why we have a major traffice tie up every evening.
