check writing 101

Good afternoon GOLO!
Yesterday I checked one of my bank accounts and I noticed something was off. I seem to be missing money or I thought I had more money than was showing. I kept looking but couldn’t quite pin point what was making my account balance be differ than what I had thought it should be. I started clicking on checks that were presented to my bank for deposit and lo and behold I see a check I wrote on 6/26/09 that was deposited on 7/1/09 for $35.00. My bank cashed it for $350.00 making me over $300.00 short in my account. The check was written for $35.00. The numeric portion was hard to read since I was running out of ink with the pin I was using and you couldn’t really see the decimal that well. But I thought they went by the written portion and not the numeric? Anyway, I called the bank and they straightened it out. I was glad I caught it. I wonder if they would have caught it eventually. Any GOLO bankers know? Has anything like this ever happened to you?

That's good :) What really gets the line riled up is watching someone stand there, watch their order being rung up THEN pull out the checkbook and start writing after the whole order is totalled. Yikes.
Now granted, some of these customers are an older generation and this was normal in their prime, they just cant let go of the old ways :)

How does a machine read the alpha lines?
Is using the 'check' ink pens I see at Wal-mart for $150 good?
Does a straight line to the left and right of the alpha amount do any good?
Do I need to put oo/ooo after an even number of dollars?
The long line of account numbers at the bottom, which is what?

ps. When I am in the grocery store, I make sure ALL of the fields on my check is filled out except the amount part. I always have my own pen and I NEVER hold up the line. So get off my back already people! lol

YES
It urkes me so much at the grocery store when people pull out the checkbook and hold everything up. Swipe the check card, they are free BTW and you will never have this happen to you again.
Really people, its 2009. Checks are more outdated than laserdisc and snail mail
