do you let your children win ?

So now we are in this new phase of games with my kids. I've been doing alot of matching and memory games. My son lost the other day and he  said im a winner. I was like at this game today you lost but you are still a good boy and you tried your best !

OH LAWD, he didn't like that one bit. My daughter will just be like OH man and slap her knee if she loses.

So my question to you parents or care givers or anything that plays with kids, do you let your kid win on purpose ? Do you tell them they are a winner even if they lost ?

I think its important to teach that there are winners and losers BUT IF YOU did everything in your power to do a good job you still get a high five or a atta boy !

Because NOT EVERYONE CAN WIN

Kids aren't stupid. They usually know when you let them win. There were some games I never LET my son win, because I knew that one day he WOULD win. I didn't want to deprive him of the satisfaction that day would bring, and I didn't want to give him an excuse for not trying to improve.

There are other games you can play with a young child where the outcome is pretty much up to chance, like Chutes and Ladders. They can have the fun of winning without feeling like they got something they didn't earn.

I didn't let my daughter win when se was little. I wanted her to learn that sometimes you win and some time you dont, but how you handle it is more important...Of course I always let her know that what ever she does she will be a winner in my eyes...

Besides, she always wanted to play chutes and ladders, and I ALWAYS lost that stupid game...I HATED,HATED, HATED that game..LOL

so true guys, lol i hate chutes and ladders too,lol we have the princess version

I can't remember what version we had, since she is 14 now, but I do remember countless times of being all the way to the top...AND bammmmmm, down that stupid ladder I would go...See, Im still frustrated over that game..I think I may need therapy!!

LOL jesus, i love ya, you all take care, i have to finish cleaning this stupid house

I'm with Ken, it's nothing to let them win a random dumb luck type of game, but i would not let them win at something like chess or a game of skill.

It is quite detrimental to their development to do so.

no- I am the Alpha dog- I must always win.

i always let my daughter win... but she's only 3. i think its good to let them lose (not all the time) but so they can know that lossing isn't that bad.

I always win and I am always right - even when I am wrong. I tell them they an have the same deal when they move out.

I think that by loosing, they learn HOW to win. I remember watching very carefully and learning strategies that my parents didnt even realize they were teaching me. Not to mention, that loosing is reality and shielding them from it sets them up for failure with others.
