my july 4th week

I just love Lake Gaston.  My husband's family has owned a place there since the late 1960s.  They have been going every summer and I've been joining them since we started dating in '85.  Over the course of time, it's been a place for fun, laughter, family, relaxation and occassionally a refuge from "life" in general.

This week was no exception.  It was so nice to get away from the constant chores, duties and obligations.  We hired a wonderful young lady to take care of our horses while we were gone.  We had a little work to do via phone and online the first part of the week, but we managed to turn both cell phone and laptops off for the second part of the week.

Fishing was great.  We caught a good amount each day and had enough 'keepers' to have a fish fry one night.  I ate hot dogs since I do not like fish.  We also had enough fish later in the week to clean and carry to my husband's grandmother.

The kids had a great time tubing, kneeboarding and my son finally learned to water ski.  The first time he tried this week, he did so on old (circa 1965 skiis) skiis.  They were wooden and slick bottomed, but the bindings hurt his feet.  So we made the trek out to find a new pair of skiis.  They were much more comfortable, but had a concave, textured bottom.  He had a harder time getting up, but he eventually learned and did VERY well.  Perhaps he'll be ready to try one ski next time.

The week eventually came to an end, but not before enjoying good grilled food all week, fun in the water, Rook, walks, reading and plenty of fishing.

Here are some pictures from our week.  Just don't be too judgemental!  It was vacation afterall at the lake, so no make-up or hair styling all week!

Hope everyone had a great July 4th!

Wow!!! Sounds like you all had such a great relaxing time. Always good to just 'get away.'

What no bikini picks?

It soulds wonderful! The only thing I wanted to do was take my girls to the cooon club down in Raeford, but I had to work. The cool thing is, I was off work at 5 so we had a nice dinner amd I had two days to relax. Love your sunset pics! And what kind of fish was the little green one?

The kind of vacation you hate to see come to an end....but now you have some new memories.....for a life time!!

Trust me when I say this golden, but that's something you don't want to see in MY portfolio!!!

good thing is their place in the 60's cost next to nothing.. now-- lake property on Gaston is worth BIGGGG bucks!! it is cool the memories you guys have had on that lake- great pics as well.

Glad you got to get some time ofgf

I can remember when we used to go fishing in those areas, as I grew up in Warren country. We had eaton ferry I loved and although it's been a long time since I first saw gaston I imagine it's grown twenty fold by now. We also had the luxury of Kerr close by. Warrenton was pretty neat location for fishing and enjoyng water.

In laws have a place at Gaston- but with no shower, bath, or AC it is not the place for high maint. me!

I'm definitely not high maintenance. I like to look nice when I have occassion to go out. I like to be presentable and try to keep myself attractive. But I'm quite comfortable pulling the hair up into a pony tail and jumping in the water with no make-up. And let's face it. I'm a farm girl, so nature doesn't deter me. It works out well since we spend our time at the Lake with a total of 9 people and at least 2 large dogs in a 3 BR single wide with one bathroom. (That single feature does at times make a visit there a bit awkward on occassion)
