now it's real

My son just told me yesterday that he has gotten word that his unit of the 82nd airborne was getting deployed to Afghanistan in Sept. He's been enjoying being stationed at Bragg and coming home on weekends. Now reality has hit home, and he's just hoping...... he comes home.  I know a lot of Goloers have sons deployed and I've prayed for them. I hope my friends at GOLO will do the same for me and my son.

Tell him thank you from me & you all will be in my prayers!

You and Zach are always in my prayers. I can only imagine how nerve racking that news is. No matter how grown he may be, no matter how prepared you and he may be, it's got to be a little scary to hear that he's actually going to be deployed. Hug him and thank him for us, for his willingness to serve.

Our prayers and good will are toward you and yours. Don't let fear and anxiety consume you during this time. He has the best training in the world...He is with similarly trained and motivated men and women...He is on the side of Right. My son did a tour in Iraq and Afghanistan so I know exactly the feelins that are flooding thru you. You've done your best to raise him up...the military has done their best to train and outfit him...And we all know he'll do his best over there. That's all any of us can ask or expect. God Bless You And Yours.

You and your son are in my prayers.Tell him thank you for what he does for our country.Iknow this has to be hard on you even though you are proud of what he does for us.

Many thanks to your family for the sacrifices you all have made and will make. May he have a safe deployment and come home to his loved ones quickly.

Tell him we're grateful and proud of his service.

Sorry to hear this. I will keep you and your son in my thoughts and prayers as well. (((hugs)))

Thanks everyone. Now I know what my folks went through when I went to Vietnam. I was no where near as worried as my mom. I was young and stupid and was in for the adventure. I was a volunteer, no draft. But it's real now. Remember that scene in Shenandoa where Jimmy Steward said "Now we're involved" (or something like that)

Anyhow I'm so proud, and nervous. And all you other military parents out there, past or present. God bless you.

My thanks to both you and your son for you service. Keep us informed...is this his first deployment? What else can we do for you? If this IS his first deployment, let me know and I'll be happy to put the Blue Star Moms on the north end of Raleigh, Wake Forest, etc. in touch with you.

golden, many thoughts and prayers for your son, his unit, and you as well.

You got it, my nephew is in deployment training now. Its scary. I will definitely keep your son and your entire family in thoughts and prayers.

Scary I know. I will send positive vibes and prayers for you and him.

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Golden}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

Prayers are with your son to be safe on his journey, and with you to be able to continue believing.

You all will continue to be in my thoughts... enjoy the summer weekends doing some fun things together.

goldenlvr your family will have our special prayers. Your son and his fellow soldiers will have the very special prayers that come from all of us who have proudly served. God Bless him for what he is doing and God Bless you for allowing him to find his own way.

Loose lips, sink ships.

GL, I am sure your son will represent his country, and his family, with the utmost valor. I pray for all our service members overseas, and for the friends and family who wait for their safe return back home.

Golden, I'd like to echo what OldRebel said because whenever the worry of it would get to be too much, I just remind myself of who he's there with and it is a comforting thought. You and your son are definately in my thoughts and prayers.

Please, thank your son for his service for me and if at all possible, I'd like to take him (and you, of course!) to lunch before he goes.

And if he could, when he gets there could he track down my son, smack him upside the head and tell him to call his Mother? ;)

Absolutely, that kid will be in my thoughts and prayers - those of you here at home worrying will be, too. Give him a hug and a "thank you" from me, and I look forward to hearing the tidings of his return. Tell him NOT to take spentrounds' advice about leaning forward in the foxhole... stay low!

Terri

I will keep him and your family in my prayers. I can kinda understand what you are going through...My husband has been in Iraq since April. Its diffcult for me sometimes to even get outta bed. But im getting better lol.

Golden, I'll add him, and your family, to my list. It's normal to be both nervous and proud at the same time. You know you have a support system here, if you need it.

I am sorry that I am posting so late on this one. I also will make sure that your son and his unit get prayers from my family as well. Being deployed is never easy on any family member.

Your in my thoughts! I know nothing can relieve the anxiety you will feel when he leaves, but make sure you tell him how proud you are for the man that he is.

Well, no prayers for ya here, but he'll be in my thoughts in as much as I hope for all our troops to get out of that place and get back home before any more damage is done to either us or the Afghans. I was there in 2003-04 and am quite glad that Uncle Sam no longer has me in his clutches to throw around in foreign countries. Sadly, nothing we're doing over there is either making us safer or defending our freedoms--so the sooner every American troops is back inside our borders the better.

I am sorry to hear he has to go. I was just at braggg this weekend for one of 4th celebration and it was so nice to see so many supporting them there. I will keep him in my prayers and hope that all will go good for him. Tell him my thanks for the protection they give us.

I'll definitely keep you, your son, and the rest of your family in my prayers. While I don't like that we're at war with other countries, I am forever grateful to the men and women who serve for our freedom. Thank you!
