what goes around...

Good morning everybody! I hope everyone had a wonderful and safe Fourth of July celebration.

My family and I went to Gingerleigh’s and we had a blast! My husband and kids had a chance to fish in the pond on the property, the music and food were great, and at the end of the evening we enjoyed a superb display of fireworks. As if all that wasn’t enough, the company was great and I got to meet our very own JRivas. Gun on his belt aside, he really is a terrific guy. He helped my son fishing, and my husband and I really enjoyed talking to him. We got home at midnight, since we got stuck in traffic shortly after leaving the party, so it was too late to write anything new. Somebody, however, sent me the following story via e-mail not too long ago, and I would like to share it with my favorite crowd.

An Act Of Kindness
Contributed By Lee Ryan Miller

He was driving home one evening, on a two-lane country road. Work, in this small mid-western community, was almost as slow as his beat-up Pontiac. But he never quit looking. Ever since the Levis factory closed, he'd been unemployed, and with winter raging on, the chill had finally hit home. It was a lonely road. He could go down this road blind, and tell you what was on either side, and with his headlights not working, that came in handy. It was starting to get dark and light snow flurries were coming down. He'd better get a move on. You know, he almost didn't see the old lady, stranded on the side of the road. But even in the dim light of day, he could see she needed help. So he pulled up in front of her Mercedes and got out. His Pontiac was still sputtering when he approached her.

Even with the smile on his face, she was worried. No one had stopped to help for the last hour or so. Was he going to hurt her? He didn't look safe, he looked poor and hungry. He could see that she was frightened, standing out there in the cold. He knew how she felt. It was that chill that only fear can put in you. He said, "I'm here to help you m'am. Why don't you wait in the car where it's warm. By the way, my name is Joe."

Well, all she had was a flat tire, but for an old lady, that was bad enough. Joe crawled under the car looking for a place to put the jack, skinning his knuckles a time or two. Soon he was able to change the tire. But he had to get dirty and his hands hurt. As he was tightening up the lug nuts, she rolled down her window and began to talk to him. She told him that she was from St. Louis and was only just passing through. She couldn't thank him enough for coming to her aid. Joe just smiled as he closed her trunk.

She asked him how much she owed him. Any amount would have been alright with her. He told her that if she really wanted to pay him back, the next time she saw someone who needed help, she could give that person the assistance that they needed, and Joe added "...and think of me".

A few miles down the road the lady saw a small cafe. She went in to grab a bite to eat, and take the chill off before she made the last leg of her trip home. It was a dingy looking restaurant. Outside were two old gas pumps. The whole scene was unfamiliar to her. The cash register was like the telephone of an out of work actor, it didn't ring much. Her waitress came over and brought a clean towel to wipe her wet hair. She had a sweet smile, one that even being on her feet for the whole day couldn't erase. The lady noticed that the waitress was nearly eight months pregnant, but she never let the strain and aches change her attitude. The old lady wondered how someone who had so little could be so giving to a stranger. Then she remembered Joe.

After the lady finished her meal, and the waitress went to get her change from a hundred dollar bill, the lady slipped right out the door. She was gone by the time the waitress came back. She wondered where the lady could be, then she noticed something written on a napkin. There were tears in her eyes, when she read what the lady wrote. It said, "You don't owe me a thing, I've been there too. Someone once helped me out, the way I'm helping you. If you really want to pay me back, here's what you do. Don't let the chain of love end with you."

Well, there were tables to clear, sugar bowls to fill, and people to serve, but the waitress made it through another day. That night when she got home from work and climbed into bed, she was thinking about the money and what the lady had written. How could she have known how much she and her husband needed it? With the baby due next month, it was going to be hard. She knew how worried her husband was, and as he lay sleeping next to her, she gave him a soft kiss and whispered soft and low, "Everything's gonna be alright, I love you Joe."

We might never again meet some of the people we help, but our lives are so interconnected that we will never know if some of the help we extend finds its way back. Have a blessed Sunday, everybody!

Good Morning! Getting ready to head out to Greenville. My older sister plays guitar in the praise and worship band in church.... They are having some big something to do. She came when I played two Easter Services with a group - some I did not know. Just thought it would be good to support her because she did come to our Easter thing.... but then again both of my parents were in the choir..... LOL She may have not come on my behalf afterall... ( Thats not right but Shine laughs because he just likes to be a happy camper )

Nancy, LOL! Good morning! :-)

Good morning to Jack, Sandra and Lolly! Hope ya'll have a great day!

Sandra, I'd love to have another walk. Do you think Oakwood Cemetery would be good? (I mention this, since you asked about it below). You can call or e-mail me, anytime. 250-9224. LamborghiniGal@bellsouth.net

Beth

Good morning Shine!

Good morning Shine! That sounds like lots of fun. :)

Beth - I think Oakwood would be great. :)

ok San, I know Cindy is a country girl...just how do you "cook" potato salad?

Good morning, wish I had known ya'll would be at Cindy's, I woulda stopped by on the way home.

good morning Happy Camper Shine

LOL @ Jack

Well, she had to cook the potatoes before making the salad. ;D

Good morning smalldogs!!! Dang! I would have so loved to meet you!

Same here. The EASIEST way to meet me, is to get arrested in Harnett County. But, I'd rather you not have to go out like that.

Good Morning! I'm glad you all had fun Sandra. I hope everyone else did, too.

I love that story..."Pay It Forward"...That's what I try to do. If it touches someone and they do a kind deed it makes it all double worthwhile. Just imagine the results if EVERYONE did it.

Sandra, that was the amazing thing, Toasty was as right as could be, not maimed at all :) It would have broken my daughters heart if he was. But he was right as rain and happily hopped off into the woods!

LOL @ Smalldogs! Hmmm...maybe we can just have lunch sometimes. :)

good morning again Sandra

I like your theme of what comes around goes around - Karma can be a real kick in the tail - and I hope it is for some

{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Godbless}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

That would be awesome!!!

There is nothing that creates a warmth in your heart than to help a total stranger and know it will impact them in some good way. Love that story Sandra, as always, you joggle the brainwaves :)

Good morning Mojo! Good or bad, karma always catches up. :)

Good morning Mojo and Godbless.

Good Morning Everyone! Good Morning Lolly! I gotta roll out got a early appoitment.

Hi Sandra, Lolly...the rest!

Nancy - that's a great ending to a neat story. I hope insurance will come through? I had a situation with my insurance company once. A bolt kicking off the highway put a hole in my engine block. I called the insurance company to know if they would fix it. They said yes, and insured me that my premium would not go up. The next year I found out a got two points out of that for "collision". When I called they said that in NC hittig anything on the road is considered collision, unless it's a deer. Of course, my mind can't wrap around the fact that they consider it easier to see a nail than a deer...

Good morning Tom!!!

good morning IfByWhiskey. I hope you had a nice 4th

AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGH!

The county Computer locked up, had to switch to laptop. Maybe we can arrainge something on one of my off days. I can even bring my better half.

Smalldog - that would be awesome! I'm always in company of at least one of my kids. :)

When I called they said that in NC hittig anything on the road is considered collision, unless it's a deer. "

I feel fairly certain that a deer that has been hit by a car would consider it a collison..;D

Nancy, I would make sure there is no other damage to the car before you call the insurance company. If it is just the grill, you can probably buy one on your own and put it in yourself. This will save having a claim record on your insurance that will make the premiums go up.

LOL! I think so too, Lolly. I find that hard to believe. You are supposed to somehow be able to avoid a nail you can't see but it's okay for insurance purposes not to see a 400 lbs animal.

smalldogs - we did that a lot when we still had a business in Durham. We got broken in so many times that we stopped making claims on insurance. LOL

not to see a 400 lbs animal."

Sigh. I guess the deer would be an act of God, but a nail would be avoidable????

So I wonder if lil Toasty would fall under the deer clause, or the bolt clause?

I bet you gave that raccoon the ride of his life!

That's what I was wondering too, Lolly. From what they told me at the insurance company AFTER I had already file the claim and fixed the engine, the deer is alone in its right.

good morning Made!!

Made!!! So good to see you! I hope you had a great 4th. :)

I hit a deer in my car once, sprayed my car with poo, the insurance adjuster laughed when he saw the car and the "proof" that I hit a deer - I literally knocked th carp out of him

the deer is alone in its right.:"

LOL, I wonder how many cases they had to take to court before the deer won this "right"

Good morning Sandra! I did an (oops) again! lol Right blog, wrong post! lol Gotta watch reading all the blogs and stopping in-between watching the tv.

Anyway, I'm glad you had a good Fourth! Did you all catch any fish?

LOL @ Mojo!!!

"Nancy, I would make sure there is no other damage to the car before you call the insurance company. If it is just the grill, you can probably buy one on your own and put it in yourself. This will save having a claim record on your insurance that will make the premiums go up."

Actually, there is more damage, car is making a ticking noise, so perhaps Toasty pushed the radiator in a bit. Since there is a loan on the car, the insurance company will only release the check to the auto repair place. It will be covered under comprehensive, 4 police officers witnessed it and the one who gave my daughter the card with pertinent info for the insurance company to get the report from him said that it would not be an issue. In fact, I once hit a deer who took off and couldn't be found, did $1,500 damage to my car and same insurance company never gave me a bit of trouble on that. Had some of his "saliva or snot" on my car too LOL

I think they caught a couple in the small pond they tried. Nothing was biting in the bigger pond. :)

LOL! Probably quite a few, Lolly. Lawyers don't even take on a casse unless they can base their reseaarch on previous documents.

"I hit a deer in my car once, sprayed my car with poo, the insurance adjuster laughed when he saw the car and the "proof" that I hit a deer - I literally knocked th carp out of him"

ooooh Mojo, me too! Did a couple thousand damage to my minivan and it was just a little button buck! No more than 90 lbs and he plowed in the grill, hood, radiator and air conditioner :( And yup, his poo was on my car and the road too.

Course, that one was laying dead in the ditch when the state police showed up to make the report for insurance purposes.

I have managed, in my lifetime, to kill two bats, a pig (funny story actually), rabbits, possum and one known deer died from my driving.

Poor daughter, has not killed anything with her vehicles yet, but the raccoon was a stroke of luck that he wasn't hurt.

I actually came to a complete stop once, and had 2 deer run into my car. I also knew a man in Chatham Co who was killed by a deer who went thru his truck windshield and broke his neck. A "deer" story blog would prolly get a 100 comments.

Here is one thing I have never understood about insurance. Your premiums are based on the value of your car when you purchased it. However, they pay out based on the value of your car when an accident happened. Why do we always pay in at the new value, but receive at only the current value?

Jack - I agree. Unfortunately many have been in that boat. I always worry about meeting a deer every time I drive on a country road, especially at night.

jackadoo, no doubt a deer blog would! I've had two run ins myself, not fun and I'm on major 'deer alert' at all times when I drive now. The little button buck was running from deer flies no doubt when I hit him on a sunny July 4th at 10 am in the morning!

The other one was at 3 am, the only car on a 5 lane road in Cary, near BJ's on Walnut no less!

Nancy - so far I think I've had the luck of the Irish. In twenty pkus years of driving I've only hit one bird. The whole week after that I felt awful because it happened in the spring and I was afraid it could be a mama with babies somewhere. :-(

If the insurance goes up, you can always switch insurance companies.

Around here, you have to worry about cows and horses, not only deer, dogs, rabbits, raccons, cats, foxes, turtles, snakes and hubby's uncle came over this morning and said he saw a whole pack of rats in the road just before he got here.

said he saw a whole pack of rats in the road just before he got here."

WOW, that is unusual

Good morning Bubbles!
