my friend, sekou aka "john"

 my friend, Sekou Tarare

My friend is from west Africa. He is a black man, really black. A few of you have seen/met him. He is "John", my taxi driver.  He has been my pal for over a year when I needed a ride. He has come to get me any day, any time, any where.  Early on, he gave me his home and cell #. We "work" off the meter, just cash. As I am moving next week, yesterday was our last day "together".  I gave him some appliances I no longer needed...he said he would give them to others he knew.

As we departed, we shook hands and then he hugged me. His last words to me were "please keep in touch" in his heavy accent. I will.

My buddy in Wilmington showed me his gift to make friends in non-traditional ways. John is my friend...one of my best. One of my others is John aka Yukon John.  So, do you have a friend you met in an unusual way?

b, so sorry about yo mom. Someone asked last week that we pray her house loan was approved...what a waste.

yeah, I'm worried about her.

Prayers, enywone???

B1, I will pray for yo Mom. A couple here gave me some sheet when I had the audacity to question the prayer list. A tumor on the kidney vs. a house loan? A nudder was asking for prayer b/c her teenager was acting like (GASP!), a teenager.

Oh, Jack, this is such an awesome story!!! I hope you and Sekou can remain in touch. I heard something in one of my daughter's movies once - "A stranger is a friend you haven't met yet". All it takes to evolve from strangers to friends is for people to have open minds and hearts. Have a great day!

San, I gave him some of "our" yard sale stuff. But there is more. John really is an amazing man. He goes home to Africa every 2 years, but has a wife and children here in Raleigh. We will definitely keep in touch.

Perhaps the most unusual friendship I ever had was with a fellow from Guatamala. I was working in an urgent care, where this man had seen me while there with a friend. One day I was summoned to the front desk, and very surprised to find some beautiful flowers from a person whose name I did not recognize. Shortly thereafter, "Oscar" stopped in and formally introduced himself. A small, charming & well-mannered man, he asked me to dinner - and I shocked myself by accepting. We got together a number of times to go out, or dine in, and would speak on the phone. I had a mysterious message on the answering machine one day, about some trouble. I always felt that perhaps he was here on a Visa that ran out - or illegally - and had to leave suddenly. I only hope that Oscar has had a great life, and that leaving Wilmington was but a bump in the road. I'd sure like to know that it's worked out like that!

Wonderful story. Meeting a true and good friend is rare sometimes indeed.

What a nice story, Jack..Im glad to hear that you will continue to keep in touch with him after your move. Good luck in your new place. Hope it brings you more happiness than the one your leaving behind.

Blondi,

My MIL had that and the kidney was removed. She did well and lived long enough afterwards to make me love her all over again. That was three or four years. She passed, not from the cancer, from being 83 yo and simply wearing out.

I miss her. She did well!

BTW Blondi,

Prayers are already remitted. My best to you and her.

Now back to Jack.

A friend is worth more than money. You will live forever in the minds of friends. In order to have a friend like that you must be a friend like that.

Cuz, email me...that way no pathetic varmits will be involved.

Jack...I have met many wonderful people all around the World and we keep in very close contact...been to Weddings, just for visits, etc because of a common interested named Queen!!! 17 of us met in Wales from all over the World for a Queen Convention...what an amazing experience I had!!! It all began in a Chat Room for Queen Fans. We all brought foods and treats from our own Countries and we tried some interesting foods, drinks, and such. Funny to hear Fresh Prince of Bel Air song sang by Friends from Scotland *LOL* Then the US Queen Conventions brought more faces to nicknames.

Blondi *HUGS* Thoughts and Prayers to your Mom Sweetie!!!

Hey Jack. Mankind. You are full of surprises. Moving. I wonder about people that have such a big heart. I think that's you. This is a great true story. Write about it someday. Just type it out in a short story.

Here's wishing you the best. You sound like you are getting over the hump and moving on. Cheers, great luck, and success. Think these things everyday: Health, success, happiness, and wealth. Wealth is not just money. Your friend. BARRY.
