texting while driving -twd

Why is it that people feel so compelled to stay in touch with others while they're driving? This is just a prime example of how selfish people can be while TWD'n. Put down the phone and drive people. It's that simple. There is nothing that important to risk the safety of others, while you feel it so necessary to text while driving. I just happened to see this article on yahoo and it kinda set me off. Sorry for the rant but, I saw someone doing this on my way to work this morning. ID10T!

Journey- Agreed! Are LEO's and EMT's any less likely to have a wreck while texting? No. Why should they text on the job anyway? What happened to good old fashioned 2-way radio? To me that's much easier and less likely to cause you to lose focus.

Hank..Yep! They're used to mommy being "silly".

lima- I bet the lady in this pic has the Brady Bunch in the back seat. I see it all the time, too.

Con- Be careful- Put that phone down and deal with those messages when you're car is stopped. I sometimes drive 40 and don't make me drop a flock of birds on you too. LOL

Texting while driving is bad because it distracts, and that's bad, right? However, do you know what the number one cause of accidents due to distraction is? By a wide margin?

Eating in the car. However, we're not hearing calls for McDonalds to put tamper-proof seals on takeout bags. Why? Because politicians really don't care about fixing problems (e.g accidents due to distraction)- they care about passing laws to make it look like they're fixing something while aggravating as few people as possible. It's all about the illusion of effort.

The Soccor Moms get livid when they see someone texting: that is, if they're not too busy putting on makeup or stuffing their face or trying to keep junior in the car seat quiet. Where does it end?

How much control over your life are YOU willing to give the government?

OK Hank!!

The LEO exemption is a good question, particulary since several of the single-vehicle LEO accidents have been linked to using the computer or phonwe during response. However, it's pointless to ask, just like asking if Universal Health Care is so great, why are Congress and the Executive Branch keeping their own bloated system?

But, how would anyone know if I was texting, or looking up a phone number, or taking a picture of the plate in front of me??

Why is it that people feel so compelled to stay in touch with others while they're driving?

driving? Why do they keep those things to their ears all day long. It amazes me how some people leave and breath for technology. computers and cell phones. If they cared as much about their families, then we'd have one heck of a country. You can't go to doctors office,(even though they say cell phones off) grocery store, mall or the bathroom without someone looking like they have an appendage attached to their head and talking to themselves.

I believe I've made my opinion clear on this.

Con- Not sure but I think that they're trying to send a message over all to stop messing with the phone while driving. I think that you bring up a good point, though. If someone wanted to fight it in court would they call in your text log around the time you were stopped?

Dude, I can barely dig my phone out of my purse to answer a ring while i am driving. I sure can't text.

There is nothing, I mean NOTHING that is so frickin important that you HAVE to talk or text while driving. Short of dialing 911 that is. Did I mention NOTHING is THAT important!

Why can't people just turn on the radio and focus on the road. Do we all need constant stimulation. What's next... surfing the web while driving?

Is the government designed to keep stupid people in check? Occasionally it should when their stupidity infringes upon the rights of others. It's unrealistic to create legislation based on texting because literally anything can distract from the road. I agree with TechRescue. The government is not your mother. We need a balance somewhere.

I came up behind a car going about 5 mph under the speed limit the other day on Capital Blvd. When I went around her, she was driving with her knees and texting. I couldn't believe it

"I want to know why lawmakers think that LEO's and emergency personal such as EMS should be allowed to TWD? I'm sorry, they are just as human as the rest of us last time I checked? If you're going to pass a law, make it applicable to ALL that drive!!"-----

uhhhh, because it's required in our job maybe? duhhh

"But, how would anyone know if I was texting, or looking up a phone number, or taking a picture of the plate in front of me??"----

If the phone is in your hand, and you're distracted, and you have bad driving including weaving or causing some other issue, I'm just going to write you for reckless.

No different than drunk driving!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

"uhhhh, because it's required in our job maybe? duhhh"

Uh what if it's required in our job too? An don't try to tell me you guys get "special" training, I've been run off the road by that special training more than once while they were nosing thru the pc or doing who knows what. Besides that I highly respect the job you do, thank you.

Find another way for us to do our job and I'll do it. Until then, it is what it is. Doing who knows what? You write that like you're a little bit snippy. Yeah, we're just out there doing that piddly who knows what, ya know, surfing the internet and checking game scores. pfft

"Besides that I highly respect the job you do, thank you."----

Thanks for patronizing, have a nice day...

"This is just a prime example of how selfish people can be while..."

I think the operative word here is STUPID, not selfish!

I don't even talk on a cell when I'm driving I certainly would never text.

Cell phones are intrusive and distracting.I hate it when a customer answers their phone as soon as it rings. When you are in a business..grocery store, doctors office, movie theater, turn your ringer off..keep it on vibrate! And wait until you are done checking out to answer it!
