Community, yes. Collective braintrust, no!

RALEIGH —  Good morning GOLO. I see that the blogs are moving quickly and the commenting is very heavy. It's always good to see everyone so involved and passionate about their topics.

As with the election, some people get fed up with the constant stream of blogs on one particular subject, and I understand that. I'm sure we all do.

You are more than welcome to encourage members to talk about your subject and stop focusing on others but please understand that no member is in charge of the editoral direction that other members want to pursue here on GOLO.

All I'm saying is this: Telling others what to write about or condemning them for blogging about something they care about is not what GOLO is all about. I'm glad that you all feel ownership of the site but you don't own it and members can post on topics they choose. You can always opt not to read it.

You can also manage your experience through the abuse, ignore and delete buttons.

So while you are concerned about repetition and may be tired of a certain topic, that doesn't mean you can dictate to others how they should blog or otherwise participate.

If I, as the Managing Editor am not telling people to stop blogging about X,Y or Z...why should anyone?

I once saw a blogger tell people to stick with their posts and monitor them after they post. Sure, that person and many others may want that but perhaps the blogger only has time to post and run. Maybe they plan to come back later.

GOLO usage is not one-size-fits-all, and your experience will not mirror the next person's. That's the whole point.

Everyone wants GOLO to operate the way THEY want it to operate but that's not how it works.

Be mindful of that.

And have a good weekend
