were your 2009 predictions right?

Okay GOLO, we are halfway through 2009, so I decided to go back and take a look at our predictions for 2009 that we all shared on New Year's Eve.
Well, some of my prediction has already come to pass. I predicted that three major newspapers would go online-only in 2009.
Well, can you say Rocky Mountain News and Seattle Post-Intelligencer? All I need is one more and my prediction becomes reality.
Oh, and here's one from Ken D:
At least one major automaker will go bankrupt, sending unemployment over 10% nationally, and taking the Dow below 7000. We will still be in recession at year end.
Looks like he was dead on, eh?

technically speaking, it was in february when the dow first dipped below 7000, but ken did not state that the dow would stay below 7000, only that it would be pushed below. from that standpoint, he is correct. as far as it being due to the bankruptcy of the automakers, well, like i said, they had not yet officially declared bankruptcy. but, they were technically bankrupt, and i think it was obvious to most investors that neither gm or chrysler would meet their 3/31 restructuring plan deadlines. so, the bankruptcy of the automakers was definitely a considerable factor in the dow drop...along with bank concerns fueled by a very scary report released by the european union regarding the health of european banks.

I predict Gandalf will be promoted several times and Steve Crisp will insult virtually everyone who disagrees with him!
I also predict that ConAmor will get pregnant!
I predict the DJIA will surge above 11,000 before the end of 2009. and thats a bold prediction! I predict the Panthers will make it to the NFC Championship
I also hate to be pessimistic, but I predict another rap star will be murdered.

depends on if you are talking about the official or technical bankruptcy. the technical bankruptcy, which has been apparent since mid to late february, would make the most since...the market is based on expectations about the future, and the fact that gm and chrysler were technically bankrupt and it was obvious in mid to late february undoubtedly contributed to the decline.
do you think a company's stock price remains healthy, even though they are technically bankrupt, and only dips when they actually file? no...even the effect of the pending auto banruptcies filtering through the entire global economy was being factored into the markets in mid to late february.

I predicted a big scandle in a local school. (I think the mess at NC State counts)
I also predicted Paris Hilton would get pregnant. (Still havent heard about it)
And I predicted that there would be a serious story on the news and someone would be in the background giving "golo" shout-outs. Well, I almost made that one happen at Gov. Scotts Funeral.(At Hawfields Cemetary and Church the other month) But I didnt think it would be apropriate.

1. That a high ranked state official would be accused of corruption.
2. That big oil companies would be accused of manipulating gasoline prices.
3. That there would be a major US industrial disaster.
4. That there would be a major airplane crash with great loss of life.
5. That an Asian country would threaten US interest.
6. That the newly elected President of the United States would be accused of not meeting his campaign promises.
7. That a tornado would wipe out a trailer park in the Southeast.
8. That a Middle Eastern country would threaten Israel.
So far, I’m batting 1,000.
