n.c. house agrees to tax package as part of budget

Published Jun. 12, 2009

The House voted 64-52 in favor of higher sales and income taxes, as well as increases on liquor and movies.

---

Since I am unemployed, the tax I pay for sales is nearly zero, since I have no income, I don't get to pay Income Taxes.  I have all the liquor that I need for a few years, and I very rarely will attend a movie.

And this just adds to my contention that whomever voted for this provision is replaced the next election.

Because 9.50 movies with $6.00 popcorn and $5.00 soda isn't already expensive enough and the movie houses aren't already struggling.

Do we just have complete morons in office or what..... yet your wrong. The same voters who beleive the "democrats are gods" and do no evil... will vote for the next set just because what? they are democrats. I have a table full I sit with at lunch who will say "It doesn't matter what their platform is.. they are democrats, I only vote for democrats".

THANKS Azzhats. (Not that I think a republican would have done anything except cower)

N.C. is heading down the same path as California. What amazes me is that people do not seem to grasp the concept of "There is no money". All you keep hearing is, oh no, we can not cut that and on and on. The reality is, this country and most states, can not afford that which the Government has implemented. We can not afford the social programs, we can not afford the workforce, we can not afford the pensions and benefits owed to that workforce and we can not afford many many other government programs. But none of these politicians have the courage to do what really needs to be done. California, looks like it will be the first to either fall or require Federal bailouts. Funny that, a bailout handed to one bankrupt entity from another. Maybe instead of money, the Feds should give em free cars.

These folks on Jones street just assured that I'll be buying fewer products in the future and dumping more money into tax-free investments.

What's that old saying about unintended consequences?

You know, whatelse, if alot of those programs WERE cut, folks would become more resilient and responsible. I do believe that. I know that something has to change because I simply can't afford the upkeep on those that COULD fend for themselves. And it's not simply those on welfare, take a look at that 'stimulus' program to get old gas-guzzling dinosaurs (like my 11 year old durango) off the road to be replaced with 'greener' vehicles. So, the gubment wants to give me back a portion of my own money to do something about my vehicle?!? They'll take $100 but give me back $50 in a coupon AND now to top it all off...I'm going to have car payments for a few years! Is this insane to anyone else?

Good thing I have a couple of horses, it may come down to either riding them or eating them.

Lets revert to the "barter system", and pay with cash to vendors who will accept it for a sales discount.

There is more than one way to skin a cat.

If you vote for an incumbent, anytime in the next 10+ years, you really don't deserve to be in the gene pool.

"There is more than one way to skin a cat."

While this is true and I completely agree with the sentiment (who IS John Galt anyway...), I see people suggest WE change in reaction to the government.

Why should that be the case?

Why should we merely acquiesce to the looters in office?

When did the 'wisdom' of elected theives become the generally accepted rule?

How did the population come to view government as the arbiter of what THEY think is right and good instead of the defender of what We the People KNOW to be right and good?

I hold little confidence that any electoral process will put the necessay restrictions back onto the government.

Sadly, I expect the system to continue to further degrade into a statist regime until it either implodes or gets forcibly removed.

The question is this: How bad will the suffering be in this country before the populace gets the motivation to do something about their tyrannical government?

How's that "change" working for y'all so far?

kid - I remember buying my first .22 rifle. It was during the Carter years. The price was $100. I offered the dealer $80 in cash and got it.

Taxes aren't the the point they will create an underround economy yet - but they probably will get there before too long. That's why Obama is concentrating on excise taxes - they hit the poor and middle class hardest (which is where the money is) and are harder to cheat on.

Well I guess I'll just work less and spend less. They'll figure out people are doing that and try to find another way to rob us.

They think nothing of irresponsible spending, wasting tax dollars, providing free education and healthcare to illegals, etc... and then they just turn around and claim to be broke.

All levels of govt are out of control!!!
