letterman nasty rape comment.
Published Jun. 11, 2009Views: 460
Remember when late night talkshow hosts poked harmless fun at celebrities? Now it seems anything goes. It's really shameless and disgusting. Letterman would never make such crude jokes about President Obama's daughters, not because he wouldn't, but because he is a huge liberal.
If Letterman felt compelled to make sexual jokes about Palin's daughter, at least do a little research beforehand. You see, the Palin daughter who attended the game was Willow, not Bristol. This child is only about 14 years old. Letterman’s rape comment was beyond redemption. No one would want a child to be exposed to such nastiness. Willow is only about 4 years older than one of the Obama girls.
What is it about Letterman's fascination about Palin anyways? She's last year's news. Why can't he joke about Joe Biden's gaff-a-day?
Letterman offered no apology the night after the vulgar remark. Apparently CBS seems no need to warn him.

How do you know? Typical stupid moronic comment from you. Speaking of glass houses. You are always so high and mighty bashing those who claim to be. What a hyprocrite.

What a surprise. This is what? the 2nd? 3rd blog about Letterman's comments. I love faux outrage from the right.
The big winner in this whole tempest in a teapot is Sarah Palin who gets to remain in the spotlight, right where she wants to be. As usual, she's milking this baby dry as long as it keeps her in the news.

You're so right, Fay. Had Sarah not opened her mouth, this would have been a non-issue. Everyone else realized the joke was just that - a joke. Is she not smart enough to get it? Palin only said something to extend her fifteen minutes.

It used to be the children of politicians were off limits to this kind of abuse. It is now apparent that only the children of DEMOCRATS are off limits.

On behalf of Prometheus, I apologize for his insult. No one deserves to be accused of being me. But to answer your question, yes. Absolutely. He is constantly accusing me of being about 12 different people. I'm not sure of the reason behind all that.
I think the wingnuts on golo want to pretend that there's only 1 person out there who disagrees with them (safety in numbers) and that that person has multiple screen names.
Wrong (as usual) but no skin off my back. But sorry that you had to get dragged through the mud :-)

I agree, the late night comedians have a double standard. They have a lot of rich material that they are ignoring.
But, you have to admit Palin and her family is a joke waiting to happen.

The only thing I heard was that a) "critics" (i.e. people who can't do anything useful) are concerned that Conan may not attract women in his viewing audience and b) His ratings for the first night were very high.
I prefer to watch UFC and WEC fights around that time.

That’s funny.
“I love the way the only people defending this trash are the leftists - who feign outrage at any mention of a liberal family memeber. It used to be the children of politicians were off limits to this kind of abuse.” - oldschool
Right, and that’s why you spoke up when all the GOLO right wingers were talking about how ugly Chelsea Clinton looked.

apparently, only the children of DEMOCRATS are living up to the ideals and standards that the REPUBLICANS claim to have a monopoly on.
If Bristol had kept her pants up, and/or if Sarah hadn't paraded her knocked up daughter at the GOP convention (and by the way, THE Republicans at the convention were the ones celebrating premarital sex by yelling "drill baby drill" at Levi - which I thought was totally inappropriate) then they wouldn't be getting all this attention.
But Sarah doesn't really mind all this. I'm sure she'd prefer positive attention, but negative attention is still attention, which is what she craves.

I don't understand the mysogynistic, personal hatred for the Palins.

Also, there was no rape mentioned.

Where do you get the misogynist part? The most vocal and prolific GOLO poster that claims women should stay home and take care of their families is an extreme right winger. And that particular statement isn’t misogynist, but rather sexist.

It's not misogeny, it's hypocrisy that people hat.
Sarah sets one standard for the nation, and another (much much lower standard) for her family.

The 14-year old was the daughter at the game, therefore the joke was about the 14-year old.
" If Bristol had kept her pants up, and/or if Sarah hadn't paraded her knocked up daughter at the GOP convention"
That's a classy comment if I ever saw one.
"Also, there was no rape mentioned."
I didn't say rape, I said "getting pregnant by an older man".
"Where do you get the misogynist part? "
"The most vocal and prolific GOLO poster that claims women should stay home and take care of their families is an extreme right winger"
I don't know who that is but I don't support that type of statement. It still doesn't excuse the behavior.

I'm not aware of any nationwide standards that have been set by Palin.
June 11, 2009 9:49 a.m.
No it wasn't. "Drill baby drill" was directed at Levi.
And it was inappropriate. Never understood why a room full of Christians...I mean Republicans...(is there any difference) would celebrate something that they claim to be against. Out of one side of their mouths they scream that premarital sex is wrong. Then out of the otherside, they're encouraging Levi to "drill baby drill" (as if one isn't enough).
such hypocrisy from the right.

I think she has become more attractive with age. But how cruel the now-outraged right wingers were to make fun of a little girl's physical appearance. And yes, I remember - it happened A LOT.
June 11, 2009 9:52 a.m.
The 18 year old is the one famous for getting knocked up and Letterman has clarified the joke was about the 18 year old, therefore you’re not paying attention. Even your fellow supporter, Ladyblue, claimed Letterman didn’t know which daughter was at the game. So how could he have specifically meant the 14 year old if he didn’t know which one was there?
But I’m still curious as to how you’re concluding that some GOLO posters hate women. Because they don’t like Palin, you’re pulling the misogynist card?

Wow. What a reach. Bill CLinton left office in 2001 - about 6 years before golo. Please - direct me to a specific example.
The only child of a political figure that I personally have ever addressed on golo was Joe Biden's adult daughter who was videoed snorting cocaine. That, to me, was a relavent issue. Of course, since it was relelvant, it was completely ignored by the press.
Other than that, MY position has always been the same - the families of politicians should be off limits. Period.
