a self-moderated community

GOLO members:
You need to start thinking more like a self-moderating community.
You wonder why some content remains? Maybe it's because some of you actually like it and enjoy the drama that unfolds.
The abuse button is there for you to use. The delete button is there for you to use, and we are now considering the coveted IGNORE button that so many of you have requested.
But understand this. IF that ignore button arrives, I will no longer respond to emails about indvidual fights between members and I will delete them from my profile. It will end that very day. You may have noticed that I hardly respond to them at all anymore, anyway. It is not a good use of my time and will soon no longer be on my radar. We are not babysitters, and this is not a daycare.
This community is growing. If you don't want to deal with someone, ignore them *poof* and you can live as though they don't exist. The goal is to make it so that you see nothing they post. Again, this is under serious consideration.
There will be troublemakers in communities. GOLO is not an island and it is not exempt from these types of people. Understand that. I don't know how much any of you frequent other sites but I've seen those who are active on others share in the comments that this is nothing compared to some. And it is the internet. Do you know that that means?
And please with the IP ban stuff. I've shared countless times the fact that IP 's are dynamic and that by banning one we could ban many many more inadvertently.
Not something we want to do.
So, the handling of this community will soon be more in your hands. That is where we are going so you might as well start practicing now.
We will continue to have a group of volunteer moderators but they are not the only moderators because there is power in collective actions. You are moderating with every decision you make.
So stop taking pride in the fact that you don't snitch and use the abuse button. Refusing to use it really says you don't care about what shows up on GOLO. If that's your stance, that is okay. Not everyone can have a vested interest in the community.
But stop complaining about what's here if you won't do anything to get rid of it. And remember that opinions are subjective.
If you stop feeding the trolls they will starve. Use some self control and try to have a better experience.
And one more thing. If you absolutely hate it here, no one is forcing you to stay.

That's scary because some of the biggest GOLO troublemakers are in the "in" crowd. In other words, they will continue to spew filth and be rewarded because their "friends" will not hit the abuse button.

Great idea, but I still say...In your opinion, if it offends you, insults you, makes you spitting mad..just walk on by...IF you can't leave a discussion comment w/o being hateful, mean and nasty about it.
