honoring dad

We're just a few short weeks away from Father's Day and the last thing we want to do is give dad the short end of the stick.

My dad was a great guy. I blogged about him recently on the anniversary of his death and shared that he and I were just beginning to understand one another when his life was cut short. I think of him often.

If your dad is still with you, please take some time to share with us what you love most about him, and if your dad has passed on like mine, share a memory or two.

Happy Father's Day!

And, please never take him for granted!!!!

My Dad was career military, and just not around much during my formative years. After his retirement and my adulthood(?), we became closer as I was handy and could fix or build a lot of stuff at his house. He needed me, though I was busy with my own family, I liked to help him on projects. Those are my best memories.

My Dad has dropped everything he was in the process of doing to help me with my termite room. He is always there for me. Not just me but the whole family. He is our rock. He is helping my brother today with some work. Has helped my sister to build an out building. Unlimited help that goes even beyond family. If someone in the neighborhood has a need he is one of the first to step. He is very open minded about the difference of people and accepts them for who they are. My dad is the best dad in the whole world.

Angela - did you get my email? Also, thanks for responding!

I have to say that most of my memories of my dad are not good. He has drank heavily for as long as I can remember, along with all that can possibly involve for a father of 3. But I have to say, I am so proud of him. He has not had a drink since January 2008, when I brought my mom home from the hospital and packed her bags. She has left before but something about this time made him realize if she left, she wasn't coming back. He quit cold turkey. I didn't believe it would last, he's quit so many times before. But I went home for christmas this past year and actually had my dad,,for the first time in 40 years. It was a great Christmas. We laughed and joked and were a family.

So, even with all of his faults, I love my dad. And for any out there going through what I did,,,never give up hope.

My dad died in '81. I tell my grandkids that I wish they could have known him. He was the greatest dad in the world. He could keep a child totally mesmerized, and behaving, by simply encouraging them to watch an ant or some other bug. He always had time to listen to anyone's problems or concerns. When daddy died, someone told me, "that's one man that nobody could say anything bad about." What a legacy! I do miss him.

My dad is a rock to many. He is the most strong-willed man I have ever met or known. When times get tuf, everyone knows that dad will still be there standing strong. I think the weakest I have ever seen him was when we lost my sister over twenty years ago.

I am lucky to still have him after his triple bypass surgery Friday.

Like seaturtle said, never take your dad for granted.

What I love most about him...His heart of gold.

lisa, we will have to commission a plaque, in your Dad's honor, hung on the door stating "Termite Room".

My dad died 6 years ago this July. People still, to this day call me Stacy Jr, because I'm natured so near like him. Which is why we butted heads as often as we did! I loved my dad and could do more with him than any of my siblings. He had a key to my house and could come and go as he wanted. I'd come home from work some days and find dinner still warm on the stove for us, or my laundry done, folded and put away. He had to stay busy. He always helped me with my "garden", a postage stamp size plot in my backyard just big enough for us to manage together. He always called me Babydoll and I was a daddy's girl 'til the day he died. Losing my mother was the beginning of the end for him. I think he grieved himself to death. He was a good person. He was more than a father to us, he was a daddy. I miss him every day.

LOL Jack that is funny. Well ya have to laugh or cry. Sigh
