The NCDOT press machine is busy today. Here's word of another project in Moore County:
Transportation Secretary Gene Conti has awarded a $1.8 million contract for a new bridge over McLendon’s Creek along N.C. 22/24/27 in Moore County.
Dane Construction Inc. of Mooresville was the winning bidder to replace the 63-year-old bridge. It is considered functionally obsolete, which means its design is outdated to serve current traffic demand. A temporary bridge will be built alongside the project site to serve as the detour and lessen the impact to drivers through the construction time period.
“Replacement of the existing bridge furthers the Department’s goal of making the transportation network safer on NC 22/24/27, which carries over 9,000 vehicles per day in the McLendon’s Creek area,” said Division Eight Engineer Tim Johnson, who will oversee the project.
Work can start June 29, with all construction to be completed by Oct. 15, 2010. Planting and reforestation at the project site is to be finished by Dec. 31, 2010.
