just another gay marriage blog.....
Published May 26, 2009Views: 501
Yes, another (most likely meaningless) gay marriage blog. But some things were said today that just put me in compete and total shock. I mean, I know there are people who are against it and I know the same old story of why. I've heard every argument. I mean, seriously, at this point, who here hasn't ... right?
But here's what get's me. I keep hearing certain people who, I can only assume are conservative, because they call me "liberal" as if it is an evil thing, because I disagree with them, say that by allowing same sex marriages - we are shoving gay's beliefs down their throat.
OK. I see your point.
So why can't you see, by your constant refusal to allow it - your shoving YOUR ideals down other's throats.
What's the difference? ideolody. Nothing more. Each side is trying to push their ideals. Who is to say who is right or not?
Here is why I back allowing gays & lesbians to be married.
1) Because the Constitution states that ALL MEN ARE CREATED EQUAL.
Equality means just that - equal. Marriage in an of itself is not a "right". But, then that also means that hetrosexuals have no right to be married either. But the fact that it is allowed and it is State and Federally recognized - EQUALITY HAS to come into play.
So - either NO Marriages are State and Federally recognized at all, or BOTH homosexual marriages and hetrosexual marriages are recognized.
2) For those who think it's a) a sin b) an abomination c) whatever it is you are against....
There is ZERO that a two gay people getting married does to change that. No one is actually making you accept it. Their existence doesn't force you to change how you feel. You can still hate it, you can still think it is a sin, you are free to tell them it is a sin (freedom of speech), you can still think it is an abomination. You can still teach your children it is an abomination and it's wrong. You and your spouse can still spend an entire night spewing hate over the entire issue. None of that changes.
SO the reality that gay marriages are "shoving" their beliefs down your throat is 100% horseshiat.
However, by you not allowing it to be equal, you are shoving your ideals down their throats, because you are denying equality and forcing them to conform to your standards.
3) The Constitution allows for freedom of religion.
Considering that the overwhelming majority of the arguement are based around religious arguments - it negates the entire issue. No person has the right - according to the Consitution - to force their religious beliefs on anyone else. So those who do not follow your religious beliefs, should not be forced to follow any legislation that is instigated by a religious root (I.E - defining marriage as a man and woman for the purpose of procreating).
Now, having said all that, I have a couple of other issues that really piz me off.
I'm sick of hearing arguments like:
1) Marriage is suppose to be for a man and a women to procreate.
OK - so, every single couple who DO NOT WANT KIDS - are sinners? You are essentially saying that you won't allow us to get married either because we refuse to procreate.
What about couples who can't. Are we not going to allow them to marry either?
Your weak argument makes the implication that we should start testing people prior to marriage to determine if they want kids or if they are capable of it. If not, then we should not allow them to marry.
Have you seen some of that procreation that is coming out of hetrosexuals? Seriously? The demon spawn? We've got Hetrosexual using their own kids in kiddie porn, we have hetrosexuals sexually abusing their own kids and others (Yes - pedophiles & child molesters are dominately HETROSEXUALS!). We have Hetrosexuals who pump them out faster then social services can take them away. We have hetrosexuals keeping foster homes stocked full of unwanted children that no one will adopt being pushed through the system We have hetrosexuals who think that the XBox & Cable TV & Cell phone + the school should raise their children. We have hetrosexuals who get divorced and then use their child as leverage against the other person, constantly abusing the child by pitting them against the other parent. We have hetrosexuals.......
Do I really need to go on? Because I can. Gay & Lesbians can only adopt - YES Adopt - the children that hetrosexuals DIDN"T WANT, or Foster (if possible because most can't since they are gay - sad), or artificially insiminate - but only the women.
2) There is nothing to prove gay is genetic or not. We don't know - there is plenty of evidence that supports BOTH. Some people are genetic, some aren't. But when you are unsure, should we really be descriminating and creating an unequal situation based on unsurity?
It's like the comment that Obama made that pized me off. "It's above my pay grade" when referencing making a decision on abortion. DUDE - If your not sure - then why don't you error on the side of caution!!!!!
3) Blah Blah Blah... next we'll allow people to mary animals, children, etc. *cough cough* idiocy *cough cough cough*.
Where did people loose their common sense or ability to think?
Animals cannot talk. Until such time and an animal can vocally say: "Please, I want you to touch my no-no spot". Then it is NOT consentual. There is nothing Consentual about it.
The government has put an age to "adulthood". Most states are 18, some are 17. You have to be 18 to vote, smoke, age where statutory rape does not apply, to join the military. 17/18 to go to an adult jail. This age has been defined for a reason. Children do not have the reason capabilities to make adult decisions.
Now, even I'll argue that I know some 14/15yr olds who are more mature than some 30s that I know. HOWEVER, until the government has set a specific age.... so until that age changes, 17/18 is what it takes to be a CONSENTING ADULT. I would argue that no child under 14 could make an adult decision considering most are either in puberty or just starting it!
Before that, a child CAN NOT be a Consenting Adult. Negating the whole child commentary.
ALL of this and yes I'm a Conservative Christian woman. Someone told me today I can't possibly be conservtive because I am for gay marriage.
I say to you who believe that ignorant dribble... Just because I can see common sense and understand equality doesn't mean that I don't think that the actual act itself isn't a sin.
As a Christian, I was taught that it's my job to help a sinner and to pray for a sinner. But at some point there is nothing I can do but pray for them. It's my job as God's child to love them anyway and treat them as I would want to be treated. The way God loves me.
It's not my responsibility to judge. That's God's job on judgement day. Any judgement I make on people, I have to answer for. Gay & lesbians will have to answer for their own sins....
But my judging them will be considered just as equal a sin in God's eyes. I have other things I've sinned for I have to worry about than taking that mess on!

Until then? It's just YOUR OPINION and it means ZERO SQUAT against someone else.
Even still, you have the right to KEEP ON thinking it's a perversion. Their getting hitched has no impact on that beleif for you. It won't change it and it doesn't infringe on your right to keep on thinking it. So who cares what your opinion of it is - you can't deny someone equality based on your opinion.
Otherwise, what can I start denying from you when I think people who have thoughts like yours are a perversion. Would it be appropriate for me to push for legilsation to prevent you from doing something because I think you are a perversion?

Not the same thing as racism. Gays are not born the way they are. They are a perversion. There is only one race -- the HUMAN race. But within the human race, there are perversions of nature, like gays.

Luckily, I'm straight so I was allowed to get married, have kids, and get divorced. Those are my rights as an American citizen.
Two people choosing to love each other and have the same rights as everyone else is ONLY natural. They should have the same rights as I do as an American citizen.
Are we going to make them sit on the back of the bus too?

However, I find it disgusting when people put their most intimate affairs in the public eye, and then expect to receive special treatment because of their sexual orientation.
Hey - I'm straight and don't contribute to the number of HIV cases in society. Shouldn't I get a doggie biscuit for that?
If my supposed plea for special treatment sounded foolish, then it's clear how this other issue sounds to me.
Do what you want, but show some self-respect & common courtesy to those around you - especially children. Our kids today see and hear WAY too much from idiot adults, and ergo, have worries and concerns that should not be theirs until they're adults.
I personally think it's pretty sad to have to add to your plate the fact that you 'have two mommies or two daddies' to explain to your playmates.
You've got your own, and this is JMHO.

I'd advise gays to form a church, make marriage a compulsory sacrament, and assert their 1st Amendment rights. Any law against it would run afoul of the prohibition against Congress' interference in the free exercise of that religion. Heck, make Ted Haggard and Larry Craig honorary clergy.
