This is a good way to get rid of all that yarn leftover from other projects. It is a really easy pattern to make and super quick. I think that they take me about 30 minutes to make one. (maybe less time but I crochet and watch tv)
I played with the pattern a little and make a really big one that I call the rat. Dexter seems to play with him the most because he can gnaw on him and also "hug" him while kicking with his back claws. These seem to have held up really well to rough treatment. Dexter's old dogtoy hedgehog didn't last nearly as long.
All my neighborhood cats seem to love them. Dexter likes his okay. The only irritating thing (to me) is if I throw one for him to play fetch because he'll run over to get it, see it is the crochet mouse and then run around until he can find one of his petsmart mice and bring that back to me to throw instead. I don't know if it is because the storebought mice are made with fake fur or if it is the little rattle in them, but he definitely prefers to retrieve those. But he will play wiith the rat and bat the little mice around.

The other cats love them, but Dexter is just "meh" with them. The whole bringing back the "made in china" mouse instead just cracks me up.
