smoking

Back in the day, Dr's did not have the tools and the know how to see what they know know about what they say smoking does to us. They promoted it back then. Now with all the, so called lab rat studies, they have proven that it is the number one cause of lung cancer, even though they they cannot pin point ciggy smoke to be the Only cause with all the other pollutants in the air. You see, within the studies, they use a controlled atmosphere of air and cigarette smoke. It does not contain the other out side world pollutants and toxicants that contribute to cancer. But of course they have other types also that prove their theory.
With that being said, I smoke. I need to quit and want to quit cause it will save a lot of money for me to buy more bullets for my weapon and get another weapon to support our wonderful 2nd Amendment.
I hope you all have a Lovey Friday!

My point is that smoking is VERY socially acceptable (relative to those other illegal drugs anyway). We don't really think of smokers as "drug addicts" because it's such a casual drug.
In that sense, it's worse. It makes it easier for people to start and continue smoking. Not many smokers would want the stigma associated with being a crack head, but cig-smoking is socially acceptable enough for them to do it.
I think we make it too EASY for people to get hooked on one of the most addictive drugs out there. Imagine if crack was glamorized on billboards the way the Marlboro man glamorizes cigarettes! Imagine the uproar.

Studies have shown that it is harder to quit smoking cigs than it is to kick heroin or other drugs.
One reason is it's horrible physical & psychological addictive potential. The other is that they are so readily available.
For example, if you are trying to kick H, one of the things you can do to help your cause is to not associate with other addicts or dealers. But since cigs are legal, relapses are fearfully easy to fall into.

Good luck on quitting. I've slowed only due to economic reasons.

I really have no problem with people smoking, or smokers in general. I wish they wouldn't because it seems that the risks FAR outweigh any perceived benefit. In the beginning, you get a high from it. But it doesn't take long for those highs to be replaced with a simple need to satisfy the nicotine addiction. (I've been told this by smokers that I know...)
We can glamorize it all we want, but we all know it is simply a drug addiction. It's not crack or heroin, but it's still an addiction. Maybe if it was a little more harsh, more people would treat it like the killer that it is.
