This is really easy to make. It is a pretty quick project too. It took me about 3 hours probably for the whole thing. I messed it up a little and had to go back and redo the triple crochet part. (gotta learn to read patterns thoroughly and not just glance at them. )
I just made one for my friend and am getting ready to make a few for myself. I loaded it up with cans and stuff from my cabinet. It will hold a lot of groceries.
I went through my junk drawer and pulled out all those cds that came with software that I no longer use. They are about to become bags. :)
GO GREEN MARKET BAG
Paper or plastic? The answer is neither, GO GREEN by crocheting a reusable market bag. Would also make a great beach bag. What other uses can you think of? Instructions are included for over the shoulder straps, or a shorter version for over the arm.
NOTES:
1. Read instructions all the way through before beginning.
2. Treble Crochet V stitch = treble, chain 1, treble (tr, ch 1, tr)
3. When working the joining slipstitch pull the stitch tight. That way you won’t be tempted to work into it next time around.
4. If your gauge is larger than stated, 5 ounces may not be enough to finish bag. So make your first one out of a 7 ounce skein.
5. Be sure to change to the H hook for working rounds 16-21, this gives your bag a stable top.
6. You can make the Go Green Market Bag without the CD, it will be less structured if you choose to leave it out.
.

Probably won`t use it as a shopping bag...someone may think you`re stealing.

It really is easy to make. It seems like it would make a good beach bag too. :)

I also came across a pattern for making crochet bath scrubbies out of grocery bags. I have a ton of grocery bags too that I need to recycle so I might try to see how easy they are to crochet with at some point.
Another reclaimed item you can use are rags. If you have clothes/bedding that is too trashed for Goodwill etc then you can make that into strips and then make some really neat stuff out of it.
