bat/cat/rabies update

Wanted to let you know the status and get some more advice. I went this morning and got pumpkin back from animal control. They tried to fight me, but I won. She is quarantined safely at my house...and is a million times less stressed. That was an awful place.
Here's where I'm at: I was told that if the test was positive for rabies, that I would know that via phone call around 1:00. IF I hadn't heard anything by 1:00 I could assume the test was negative or inconclusive. Well, it's past 1 and no word. Again, I was told that if the test was inconclusive pumpkin would have to be surrendered and put down (that's because her rabies vaccine was expired). I asked about spinal fluid testing as Skypilot mentioned last night and I was told that brain testing was the only acknowledged and accurate method that the powers that be in Raleigh would perform and accept.
Please, please, please say a prayer for Pumpkin that the test is negative. I will never forgive myself if I have to put her down because the brain had decomposed too much to get a definite negative. This just does not seem fair.
Thank you for listening.

It seems to me like maybe the person who you spoke with got it wrong. If the test was inconclusive and they needed to put her down, why wouldn't they call you. To tell you if we don't call then she is either fine or you may need to surrender her makes no sense at all.
I'm going to hope that as it is after 1pm and you have not heard that Pumpkin is okay.
I know that it sucks, but I'd call them and make them tell you either way so you aren't sitting there stressing over it.

One of our AC Officers here once told me that I should be charged with child endangerment for taking my daughter with me on animal rescues because I was exposing her to rabies (we had a few words about that)! Thankfully, he's retired now and my daughter is almost 18 and has survived being raised by me.
