traffic alert for burlington

Alamance County is not technically in our viewing area, but I know we have some viewers and WRAL.com users who spend a lot of time there. Here's word of a traffic-pattern change from NCDOT:
Motorists traveling on South Mebane Street (State Road 1306) in Burlington will be shifted into a one-way, one-lane traffic pattern beginning Wednesday, May 6, at 8 a.m. from Huffman Mill Road (S.R. 1158) to N.C. 54 (Chapel Hill Road) in Burlington, weather permitting.
The closure is necessary for construction to begin on an N.C. Department of Transportation project to widen the 2.6-mile section of South Mebane Street from two lanes to four lanes with a median.
The $13.6 million project was awarded to Yates Construction Company Inc. of Stokesdale. It is one of the first projects in North Carolina to be funded with the federal American Recovery and Reinvestment Act money that NCDOT received for highway and bridge improvements. Work is scheduled to be complete by August 2011.
During this closure, which will last approximately a year, motorists will only be able to travel west through the work zone. This pattern will provide better traffic flow through this already congested area. One-way signs will be placed on various side streets and at the intersection of South Mebane Street and Huffman Mill Road, and South Mebane Street and N.C. 54 to assist motorists.
Motorists should expect heavy delays in this area and are encouraged to use an alternate route.
