update: wral on the bus

I did the story earlier this week about WRAL's pilot project, bringing mobile digital TV to Raleigh city buses.

I read through the comments, and I checked on the financing of this project.  I checked with Jimmy Goodmon, who is in charge of CBC New Media.  He says the City of Raleigh spent no money on this project.  Any revenue it generates will be split between the city and CBC, WRAL's parent company.

What about the short buses, don't leave us out ;)

Brian...you are putting WAY to much stock into the concerns of the Goloites. We are mere peons and most here just comment to here the tapping sounds on our keyboards so the voices in our heads dont drive us crazy!

You know, you cannot go to the bathroom hardly without having a TV. Is anyone else like me and sick of having TV everywhere? No wonder people cannot communicate. They are too busy watching TV and folks, they will watch ANYTHING. We went to a Chinese restaurant recently where they had Sponge Bob blaring. I asked them to turn it down and some guy in there got a little miffed. I think if you need to watch TV and eat, take your food to go. I prefer a quiet meal.

I maintain this is a huge conflict of interest for WRAL. They cannot be expected to objectively report on matters concerning the city of Raleigh or tax-payer funded transportation when they have a vested interest in making sure it doesn't fail.

So did CBC fund this?

I think CBC/Jim Goodmon does a lot with advancing technology in this area at their own expense. Mobile information is what he's displaying here, not just "TV on the bus."

Brian, you do a great job reporting the "techy" side of the news.

WOW, there goes everybody again! What is the big deal people? Can't CBC do antyhing right your eyes?

Placing these tvs on the buses is a nice technological step. The TVs are not just going to be showing WRAL, but also bus route information etc.

The TVs show WRAL, becuase CBC fronted the money. In CBC eyes they see this as an oppurtunity to grow their viewer base and become more intertwined with the community.

It makes business sense and it is a technological step that can bring about more things that can affect us all in positive ways; like if their is a crisis downtown or a sevre weather system it gives more avenues for the public to be aware.

It's nice to have a celebrity official touch base.

ps: I like the commercial where there is a tv screen and everyone is sitting at the desk waving. Funny.

I went to the dr office yesterday and they had two big flat screens playing headline news and all the old ppl were intently watching it...I SO wished I had a universal remote and could've changed it to BET Rap City!~

You know, if we can put TV in front of our faces for every waking moment, we'll never have to develop friendships or strong families. We'll just be entertained and informed 24/7 and have nothhing to show for it except the passage of time. Isn't that wonderful? Great project, much needed. Not! ;-\
