update: wral on the bus

I did the story earlier this week about WRAL's pilot project, bringing mobile digital TV to Raleigh city buses.
I read through the comments, and I checked on the financing of this project. I checked with Jimmy Goodmon, who is in charge of CBC New Media. He says the City of Raleigh spent no money on this project. Any revenue it generates will be split between the city and CBC, WRAL's parent company.

ps: I like the commercial where there is a tv screen and everyone is sitting at the desk waving. Funny.

Placing these tvs on the buses is a nice technological step. The TVs are not just going to be showing WRAL, but also bus route information etc.
The TVs show WRAL, becuase CBC fronted the money. In CBC eyes they see this as an oppurtunity to grow their viewer base and become more intertwined with the community.
It makes business sense and it is a technological step that can bring about more things that can affect us all in positive ways; like if their is a crisis downtown or a sevre weather system it gives more avenues for the public to be aware.

Brian, you do a great job reporting the "techy" side of the news.
