Beverly Hills Chihuahua | Movie Review

RALEIGH — With two young children, I've seen my share of movies about dogs. In fact, I just saw Disney's Hotel for Dogs a few weeks back. But last weekend, we rented Beverly Hills Chihuahua and I thought it was pretty funny.

I don't know if it was Drew Barrymore's voice as the pretentious star dog "Chloe" or George Lopez as the voice of "Poppy," her suitor and ultimate savior...but there was enough adult humor hidden throughout to keep me interested and laughing.

The Chihuahuas are so pampered and uppity that you can't help but laugh. They are literally just like their owners. Chloe even has a diamond dog collar from Harry Winston's. Oh, and the outfits they dressed those dogs in were just too much.

Well, Chloe goes on a trip to Mexico with her sitter and is dog-napped as prey for a dog fighting ring. She is almost crushed by the diabolilcal doberman, Diablo who hunts her for the rest of the movie. But the captive dogs somehow escape and save her, only after he has ripped her expensive dress to shreds.

Then the fun really begins as this diva dog is forced to live like a stray and find her way back home. Some of her troubles include an encounter with two thieves who steal her diamond collar. They are an iguana and a rat, and they cracked me up.

If you have kids they'll love. If you don't and you want a laugh I think it's worth it. You'll laugh out loud on a few ocassions.  I give it three paws and a hearty "woof."
