great moments in golo history

Published Mar. 3, 2009

First of all, this is a "proton blog" -- no negativity allowed! Leave it at the door, please.

Now that the cheesy joke for today is out of the way, I have an assignment for everybody.

Think back -- waaaay back -- to all your days on GOLO.

What do you consider the greatest of the great, the best of the best, moments of GOLO history?

A link to the event or blog or image gallery or group would be great, too, to support your claim.

Here's the catch:

  1. If you can't think of anything that can be considered great or the "best" then your job is to create such a positive moment for GOLO this week.
  2. If you can only think of negative moments or controversial moments, don't bother commenting here -- your comment may likely get deleted by yours truly.

I've often been more of a reader of the blogs, only commenting occasionally. But I have enjoyed Steve's blogs and his antics with other bloggers. I love Smorg's recipe for the soup. And the way everybody chips in with money, or advice, or hugs when needed. Sometimes, you guys are the only adult "conversation" I have all day. Most of my day is consumed with a little guy, 3 yrs. old and I speak Sesame Street. Thanks, guys! Love most of you.

...Back when Coke was still cola & a joint was a bad place to be...

I have met some great people on her, made some wonderful friends. Golo is like anything else. There is the good and the bad. Most of the time the good shows through but sometimes the not so good peeks in. We wouldn't know the good times if it weren't for the bad times. It's the bad times that make us stronger, draws us closer. Those that break and run during the bad times weren't meant to form the core group to begin with. Golo is experiencing growing pains. Some will grow and mature with the site and some will chose not to.

I hear ya ginny! I've been in that situation for several years. You love being at home with the kids but you really need that adult conversation too, lol!

(And sometimes you can find adults on Golo!)

;)

(And sometimes you can find adults on Golo!)"

Yes, there are still a few of us around. ;-)

and you can tell it's been a long day, I cannot spell for carp!

Another great photograph...I always appreciate the one's you share with us here on GOLO.

I have one word for this blog : Lolly

Wow, it sure is nice to see this post and the comments from my sick bed at home. A great difference from the most recent rash of negativity and constant complaints. I know we have a long way to go but again, this is very nice. Thanks, Kelly! -Angela

One of the first GOLO gatherings at Logans. That was a trip. I got my tail spanked, literally and I get to meet a great bunch of people.

Favorite GOLO moments? Let's see. There are too many to list and name here, but some quick stand-outs for me are;

Javajoe's pictures of the day. I also love Old Rebs photo galleries from his biking trips. They capture a scene that most would look beyond and show the true beauty.

Sandra's daily blogs. I go in search of these every morning that I can.

Mark's morning cup of coffee/breakfast. And when Mark can't be there, someone always covers for him.

I love the interviews that Angela did/does with us.

I love the fact that there are some here who strive to make everyone feel welcome and happy. Likewise, there are those who are there to tell it like they see it w/o apology! The blending of the two make for some very engaging conversations.

I love the blogs that reach out to do community service projects. This shows that there IS power in these groups and that the good outweigh the negatives in life.

This is just a sampling of all the good moments.

Two things stand out in my mind. The first was the first "real me" batch of postings last summer. The second was when a GREAT DEAL of kindness was shown to me by several folks out here during a very rough time for me in September when one of my sons decided to move in with his dad...on the other side of the country. (Ladies, you know who you are, and I love you for it!)

So those are my two most memorable moments. :)

"What do you consider the greatest of the great, the best of the best, moments of GOLO history?"

salty's quotes of the day blog.

I was always impressed with Elcid & his knowledge & his wit. Not saying that I agreed with his logic, but he was very interesting to follow & would give Steve a FIT! But, Steve can hold his own & did to the point it was comical.

The first days & months of Golo were the best for me. Lolly, Rosebud, (Who I personally miss), Steve, Ladyblue, Bones, Feisty, & many many more who gave me a smiling start to the my day.

There has been too much good for me to pin point my favorite.

Being a new addition to the GOLO community, only a few months old, thinking back for me is but a flash....

The welcome I received and the support from Angela and some of the other veterans was nothing short of commendable.

"History is just the future in waiting."

I am enthusiastic that as GOLO grows, a greater number of postive things will continue to emerge.

I've been blessed eough to find wonderful friends and a great support network on GOLO. My mom's health has been critical lately and Ernie...Lolly...Sessy...Rev...Blah....Spunky...Godbless....G andalf....and the list goes on....have all been there for me. Friends like these are few and far between. Because of them and more than I can list here, I have a little sanity left and am able to function. The prayers sent up for me and my mom were unbelievable and so are all these precious people. Thanks my GOLO family!

When me and Strawberry Letter realized that we lost our best friends within a couple of months of eachother, and we were supportive of eachother and creid on eachother's shoulders for awhile. It was cool to me to have someone understand what I was going through so well.

Another thing that was cool was the on going help project/friendship with Mr. Lee. Both the benefit and then later the fence building project, so I guess that really counts as two things. We have made such a big difference in his life. And him having so much more hope in his life than before, positive things are starting to surface in his life now and he's enjoying himself, probably for the first time in years. I firmly believe that if you keep on thinking positive and trying to be positive, positive things will come to you. I've seen that in my own life, and now, in someone else's too.

Another cool thing was when Steve Crisp organized the help for young Tesy and her son. Even though I wasn't able to help out that time, it was very neat to see him explain that just a little here and there could become such a big help for someone, and the whole thing came together in about 30 minutes. And he takes debit cards too!! How cool is that?

There are other things too, like the way Godschild43 always has a kind and/or encouraging word for all of us. No matter who we are, no matter what we are. She is probably the kindest person I've ever talked to.

Sandra's morning blogs are always good to read, always thought provoking. And the last one I read made me cry. Of course, a touching story with a dog in it gets me every time. But even then, the deeper message was not to overlook the good in one's life.

There are also the morning coffee/what's for lunch blogs. The point there, I think, is not the coffee or what anyone is having for lunch, but just a pleasant blog where we can come together to talk about pleasant things. No name calling, no bashing, no childish attitudes, just fun.

Another cool thing is when someone does a historical or travel oriented blog. And of course, I've been diggin Rockinhorse's ongoing house project blogs. That I can have something like that shared with me is really cool. It was a house that was in their family, and now this same old house has a new life. That is just so very cool to me.

There are a lot of cool things about GOLO. That's why I keep on staying here

I remember my earlier days as a newbie in Golo when I wrote my first-ever blog. It was about Raleigh and all the growth we had been experiencing at the time. The next day I logged back onto Golo and there it was...my blog on the front page of Golo. That made me feel so good Angela! I felt like I was a newspaper writer! lol Thanks Golo!

Sharing....both good and bad...makes Golo a winner of all of us.

What I believe was the very first GOLO gathering. It took place at Logans in White Oak. I met many friends and came away with a present from a very sweet Wardofstate.

The thing I have enjoyed is, There are TRUE friendships made here. How many times have we laughed together, cried together, prayed for each other and even thought of each other when we weren't online. I have met several here and adore them all, others I still want to meet {yes Wizard my best Buzzard, You are definitely one I have to meet one day} I feel very blessed to have found you all, even the ones that make my head hurt at times ;)

Such a nice way to put it, RoseBud!

Just prior to Christmas 2007 I asked several GoLo members to share Christmas traditions that had developed over the years within their families.

The response was better than expected and all of them can be seen in the link below.
