great moments in golo history

Published Mar. 3, 2009

First of all, this is a "proton blog" -- no negativity allowed! Leave it at the door, please.

Now that the cheesy joke for today is out of the way, I have an assignment for everybody.

Think back -- waaaay back -- to all your days on GOLO.

What do you consider the greatest of the great, the best of the best, moments of GOLO history?

A link to the event or blog or image gallery or group would be great, too, to support your claim.

Here's the catch:

  1. If you can't think of anything that can be considered great or the "best" then your job is to create such a positive moment for GOLO this week.
  2. If you can only think of negative moments or controversial moments, don't bother commenting here -- your comment may likely get deleted by yours truly.

"http://www.wral.com/golo/blogpost/4591912/" -- Great blog, Ginger

Ginger, Joker did a wonderful thing!!!

This one, too.

I had forgotten about that!!

If we could just get the kids on the playground to take their Ritalin...we'd be dang near perfect here. :)

Thanks Lolly!!

"Steve and Elcid!!!!! I used to get up Sunday mornings, play jazz music and watch Steve and Elcid swap punches"

ROFLMAO!!!!

I really miss Elcid, I hope he's in good health and enjoying his new home!!!

When Steve Crisp organized everyone to donate to help a blogger who was about to get evicted because her ex had not paid his child support.

The best, very best of GOLO.

God bless.

RB

Joker's a great guy!!!

Rev - good point!!!

"Ginger, Joker did a wonderful thing!!!"

Yes, and so did you! And Steve!

If we focus on the positive, perhaps the trolls, etc. will just grow tired of it and go away.

Not sure what all happened on GOLO today but now I'm sort of glad our power was out all day.

I actually miss El Cid, though I suspect he is still actually here under another name.

You guys are bringing up stuff I never heard of before, and I'm sorta sad I missed them!

"When Steve Crisp organized everyone to donate to help a blogger who was about to get evicted because her ex had not paid his child support."

Yep, Steve is great person, he just marches to the beat of a different drummer, and he's good at it{;o)

Come to think of it, so do I{;o)

Mysterious, Steve...who do you think? Inquiring minds want to know. ;)

Steve your not the only person who thinks elcid is still around under a different name.

What do I think about what?

Oh who, not what, and in reference to El Cid...

I'm not sure of who exactly, just this gut feeling I have that he still lurks.

Lolly, remember this headline, "Nifong pulls out and Easley puts Hardin in."

I laughed till I cried.......

All the greatest moments have been banished for eternity.

Those were strange news days His....

That must be sort of difficult for El Cid to lurk and not let those fingers fly across the keyboard. lol

Elcid is a super guy who actually DOES know everything. He is missed. He has gone bigger and better and is much happier for it. He never spouted just to make himself feel intelligent.

Javajoe, great blog and a beautiful picture, a perfect way to end our day, thank you!!!

Goodnight my friends!!!!

Thanks, hist -- goodnight!

Steve, I loved reading El Cid's posts! I always left GOLO a bit more knowledgeable. There is one Goloer who has his style, but doesn't seem to carry the experience El Cid have.

BTW -- I enjoy Smorg's blogs and quirky jokes. I especially enjoyed his blogs on his son.

Finally -- Old School used to come on more and he was very patient with answering my questions about topics -- especially when I was looking for a conservative perspective. I miss his blogs.

I remember lot's of good and fun time. we hadn't had golo for a few months and I think it was vette's blog on us going into the cave and playing on the pole. Back then Golo was very strict about vulgar stuff and we almost got the hatchet. They really lifted those older day bans.

What ever happened to Srolling Bones? I miss sparring with her.

Steve - she got mad that some got to bust the TOS and some walked. She lives on another board, if you want to find her.

There were great times back in early months of GOLO. I really enjoyed posting stories and back then I met some geat and wonderful people who were my friends. This place has made a great difference to me. Even during the period when I was just reading the posts.

Great place just to "be."

"no negativity allowed! Leave it at the door, please. "

One simple rule, and it couldn't be followed.

Dang! Lolly beat me to the flashlight blog!

(That was fun!)

"One simple rule, and it couldn't be followed." -- It's ok, so far. No real negativity, just reminiscing about unpopular events. Borderline! :)

Hate to change the subject but pilates works wonders for flabby arms.

I enjoyed the oldschool-elcid blogs...still do, even though he uses his new name!

One night Steve and Stud started arguing about dispensing medical advice on the internet. Elcid eventually chimed in too. This went on until about 3 am when I finally went to bed. I got up around 9 the next morning and there was a new blog going and Steve and Elcid were STILL fighting! Steve had apparently done three loads of laundry while arguing and Elcid ended up missing his bridge game that morning because each of them were determined to have the last word. That still cracks me up!

OMG - I remember that blog, wheeler, with him missing his bridge game! That WAS a good one!

A few months ago someone posted a really hateful blog about another member. However, instead of sniping back and forth, several Goloers came on, hijacked the blog and started telling lame jokes until the blog went away. The blogger came back once to tell us he was "watching us." I thought it was great to see others come to another's aid by making something ugly into something funny.

It brings a smile to my face every time I think about it, tmed!

That still cracks me up!"

I remember that Wheeler. I felt like I was watching chariots of fire. It was so entertaining!!

I always liked, and still do, the blogs about real life, personal events. Cuzin Lukey had us hanging on for days as he told the story of a murder in a small town. That still stands out in my mind.

I think Steve Crisp is at his very best when writing about life with Val. ;-)

Stories of growing up, of moms and dads, of raising kids, even of losing someone seem to draw the very best writing out of almost anyone here when they write.

Everything else, especially the 'issues discussions', are just sideshows until another gem appears in the blogs.

It was VERY entertaining! There's no one who can give Steve a run for his money like Elcid!

;)

I miss him...

I agree, Smorgas, I like reading the real life blogs too.

I also enjoy your blogs of strange stories.
