If you’re looking for a friend on GOLO, look no further than the lovely GodBless. Her warm temperament makes her a real asset to GOLO and we are happy to have her among us. I had the pleasure of chatting with her last week after first meeting her at the GOLO Anniversary Party last July. Meet, Godbless…
Angela: I see you’ve changed your profile name…
Godbless: (Laughs) Yeah, trying to get a job
Angela: Did you expect to lose your job? Did you see it coming?
Godbless: No. No, not at all…..
Angela: How have you been holding up?
Godbless: I’ve been through a lot of disappointment because I had my heart set on going back to school and I can’t get financial aid.
Angela: But wouldn’t being out of work, help you get financial aid?
Godbless: That was my understanding but it didn’t quite work out that way. They said they try to help people who can’t qualify for unemployment before they help people that do. But the way I see it, God has a plan for me and if I’m not meant to go to school right now. I’ll get there.
Angela: That is a very positive thing to say
Godbless: If it was meant to be I’d be in already, I was supposed to start last Friday.
Angela: You are a very positive force on GOLO. How do you remain so positive?
Godbless: Well you notice on occasion that I do hide myself. Sometimes I’ll go private. But I haven’t done it lately. I’ve made a lot of friends on GOLO, a lot. Some I’ve met some I haven’t and I would love to meet. and I’m waiting for birthday party #2.
Angela: Did you ever think you’d meet people online and then real life
Godbless: OhMyGod No! At first I was just commenting on news stories then it took me a while to get the courage to get a profile, then I thought well since it’s connected to WRAL.com it can’t be that bad. I gradually wormed my way up there. Now I’m wide open. I love the chat room love it love it love.
Angela: If you could find your dream job, what would it be?
Godbless: My dream job is to be an accountant. I love math but I’ve never been to school for it. At the age of almost fifty it would take four years for an accounting degree and I can’t do that.
Angela: Never say never
Godbless: Yeah. And WRAL would be a good place to work too. I’m a people person.
Angela: Well perhaps you could manage GOLO?
Godbless: Yeah that would be cool but we need you to do that.
Angela: Where did you grow up
Godbless: Majority of my life in Henderson. I was born in Southern Virginia. We moved here when I was in fifth grade.
Angela: Tell me a great memory from your childhood;
Godbless: Family. We always had lots of family at the house. They’d come over on the weekends and we’d be out in the yard, on the swings, when life was simple.
Angela: So you think life is pretty complicated now?
Godbless: Oh yeah, I’ve always said that I’d like to live like the Amish. (Eventhough I’d have to give up my computer.) Their lives are so simple. They live such simple lives but they’re so close. I went on a tour of an Amish house in Lancaster, PA and it totally amazed me the way they do things. It blew my mind. I was jealous. We have stuff we think we can’t live without. Can you imagine family all being right there together? I think it’s awesome.
Angela: it’s clear that God plays a really important role in your life. Why did you choose your profile name?
Godbless: God does play an important role in my life. I’ve been through a lot. Lost a lot of family members and if it weren’t for my faith I don’t know if I’d be here talking to you. The day I came home and my dad was dead, it was the worse thing that has ever happened to me.
Angela: Is it too difficult to talk about? Can you tell me about that day?
Godbless: I came home from work and there was a policeman in the yard. Momma was there, my husband was there and they tried to keep me from going in the house. I went in the house and sat with him and I cried and cried. The worse part was to see my brother, who is autistic who was sitting there with him and had been with him since about 10 o’clock that morning trying to wake him up. It made me think I had to grow up because I didn’t have my daddy anymore. I was 33 then.
Angela: Are you living n memories now?
Godbless: Oh yeah, lots of them. And it’s great because they’re all good memories.
I’ve lost my dad, my mom, my grandma and my older brother. And a 12-year-old niece.
Angela: That’s rough. I’m sorry to hear that.
Godbless: Yep, hence my name GodBless. If I did not have my God, I’d be out of here.
Angela: Well you’re here for a reason.
Godbless: Yes I am. I’m here to do for others. That’s what I do best.
Angela: So tell me something that most people wouldn’t know about you ?
Godbless: I cross-stitch. But my last one was so big that I hurt my hand and had to have surgery.
Angela: Good grief! What were you making?
Godbless: It was an 11-by-14 birth announcement with the child’s name, weight and parents name and it was big. And I had a death grip on that hoop that I pulled something. But it was beautiful!
Angela: You mentioned that you’re almost 50. Any plans for the big 5-0?
Godbless: Just to wake up on the right side of the dirt yet another day.
(We both laugh)
No big plans.
Angela: So what do you think you’ll be doing at 60?
Godbless: I think I’ll be dead. Cuz I’m so much like my dad and he died at 59. I’ve always thought that. I hope I’m not because there’s too many people here who depend on me, but that’s in my head. But the way my life goes, I will go before social security time.
(We laugh again)
Angela: So what do you want to do before the time comes?
Godbless: I am determined to go back to school and get that Medical Assistant degree and I am going to do it. And win the lottery I’d love to do that.
Angela: What would you do with the money?
Godbless: First of all, give some to all of those people on GOLO that don’t have a job…Sandra’s little group would get some of it to help everyone that’s unemployed. And I would fence in our property and rescue as many dogs as I can from the pound.
You’ve seen my pics of Rudy haven’t you?
Angela: Yep.
Godbless: I’ve gotten phone calls from all over and even an email from someone in the UK about those pictures. They want to know about Rudy’s temperament, all because of GOLO.
Angela: How long have you had Rudy?
Godbless: I got him in September of ’07.
Angela: Have you always loved dogs?
Godbless: Yes. Cats not so much.
Angela: What do you do for fun?
Godbless: GOLO, woman! What’s wrong with you?
Angela: (feeling quite chastised from that last exchange…) Who are some of your GOLO favorites?
Godbless: Angela
Angela: Aww that’s sweet…Who else?
Godbless: I can’t name them all. Let me see: Campost. I love Camphost. Made in USA, Lolly, the Studman of course, King of Studs or whatever his name is this week. Braintreebrat, Mojo, Headlong , Sessy and Sandra Carrington-Smith and the brainchild Steve Crisp. NCMOM I love her to death, At work. God it’s hard to name them all I have lots of freinds. Jackadoo. I call him Jack a Jay….
Angela: What would you say to someone who might experience what you’ve experienced and find themselves unemployed?
Godbless: Gotta have faith. God has a plan for everybody. We don’t always know what it is but I believe with my heart and soul that everything happens for a reason. And just because you don’t know what that reason is doesn’t mean it don’t exist.
Angela: Thank you Godbless. I’m glad we finally had a chance to do this.
Godbless: I love GOLO. GOLO helps me a lot. I get on there and the people just jump in. This is the very first and only site that I’m on to chat with people.
And I tell everybody about that.
