Misc Info for People that Might Need Assistance or know of someone that needs assistance

  • Angel Food Ministries is active in most counties.  People, regardless of income, are able to purchase food packages with either cash or they can use food stamps.  The food is good food and for $30 usually enough to feed a family of 4 for about a week.  www.angelfoodministries.com or you can call 1-877-366-3646
  • Each county usually has a Partnership for Children that supports a Child Care Resource and Referral Agency.  Each CCR&R is called something different.  Try contacting your Partnership for Children for information.  The Partnership funds different things in different counties depending upon their funding for that particular county, seeing as how it is a partnership with state and local governments, businessess and private citizens.  In Cumberland County, our PFC offers a variety of services such as but not limited to enhanced referrals for military families, fee assistance through NACCRRA, parent and grandparent education about quality childcare and other education classes, onsite referrals for DSS, emergency child care funds, behavior management training, child safety seat programs, teen parenting support groups, military family support groups, a resource lending libraries (toys and materials for parents and providers), a grandparent support group, story/art times, a book club, and emergency and short term child care funding for people in a crisis situation, and other things.  Contact www.ccpfc.org or 910-860-2277
  • Also a number of libraries have what is known as a resource guide for their areas that is put out by the Partnership.  Cumberland Counties is known as Family Focus.  In this guide is a wide range of services available for families in all sorts of situations.
  • WIC  is Women, Infants, Children.  WIC provides healthy food, training on eating tips for you and your child, breastfeeding support, referrals to health care and community services.  Just because someone doesn't qualify for food stamps does not mean they will not qualify for WIC.  GO APPLY.  There are income requirements but if you surpass those there are also health risks that are taken into consideration.  To find out more, contact your local health dept or 1-800-367-2229
  • If you are prior military and having difficulty, check with the Veteran's Administration or the Disabled American Veteran's.  The DAV is a seperate organization and they encourage membership but you do not have to member for them to asist you.
  • Check out jobs that you may not have thought of.  Jobs that typically go to teenagers (sorry kids).  Fast food and such.  It's easier to find a job from a job.
  • Look into going back to school in a field that is hurting for workers.  The education field and the nursing field.  Both are wide open at this time and the education field has opportunities for lateral entry.

I was trying to sleep last night, thinking of all the people that I know that are hurting right now, that have lost their jobs, or who are living on one income when they are used to 2, and how we need to think outside the box, and also what resources I have that might possibly help at least one or two.

I hope they help.
