Macafee to me is more bothersome then it is worth. It runs in the background process and uses about 100K of ram and wants to update continually,Symantec about 65K and if you have the total security about 100K.
Use malware bytes for spyware and trojans.

While I have little doubt that this product is well worth the price if Steve Bass recommends it at all, I too use AVG Free on my desktop with great satisfaction. I'm using AVAST Home Edition (also free) on my laptop. Both products are used in conjunction with several other free malware programs... all of which combined consume less memory than the hogs, McAfee & Norton.
For whatever reason, AVG became uncooperative about the updating on the laptop, and I needed something that would be there for me at the time. I've been pleased with it thus far, but the laptop isn't used at nearly the rate as the desktop, so I'm not as concerned about running into malware with it.
