Or maybe you are not a stylist but you know some things about hair. HELP!!!!
I am frustrated right now, trying to figure something out! Ok. My bestfriend has been doing my hair for almost 6 or 7 yrs now. She has helped my hair to become healthy and I get a lot of compliments on my hair.
Well this is my issue, she cut my hair last year because of some damage, that she said was caused by stress. The damage occurred on the left side of my head in the back. It was an area that was always itching and I would dig and scratch it. So it started to break off some. So in order to keep my hair from looking raggedy (sp ?) she cut it even but layered the top. So my hair was a couple inches from being an elevated bob (it came to the end of my neck). I was fine with that because I knew it had to be done in order to get my hair back to its healthy state. Now here we are a year later. My hair has grown out from that cut.
I stopped getting my hair dobbie wrapped and have started to get just curls or roller sets. That has worked best for me because I don't have to do anything to my hair. I get my hair done every 2 wks. I get a hair treatment every 4 wks. I only use Ker Kare hair products. My hair stays in curls so I haven't noticed the length of it in a while. When she washes my hair and I sit in front of the mirror to watch her style it I honestly don't pay much attention because I trust her. She's been my bestfriend of a few years.
Well my husband said to me a few weeks ago that he likes me wearing the curls but he'd like to see me wear it straight (in wrap--men have no idea what hair styles are called..lol) sometimes. So I thought, ok--when I get my hair done next time I'm going to get a wrap. Well I got curls instead but I remembered that I could still wrap my hair after my curls began to fall. So this is what I did. Well I noticed that my hair is still just on my shoulders. I thought well maybe the curl creases that I have in my hair still hasn't fallen and I'll see the complete length then. Well it did and I saw my length. I am familiar with they speed that my hair usually grows. It does not grow exceeding fast, but it grows when its healthy pretty normal (my dermatologist told me this). So I think my hair should be a bit longer.
My goal is to grow my hair out. I want to wear it long. I talked with my friend and she said that my hair is fine and I just need to keep my ends trimmed every 8 wks like I always do. So I thought hmm... why every 8 wks. I went online and read up on how often your hair should be trimmed and I saw a lot different things. So in other words, my hair stylist is trimming my hair every 8 wks and taking off half an inch. I read a lot things about black hair stylist and how they are missed informed about having to trim your hair every 8 wks and taking off that much. So my gut was right. Your hair should only be trimmed every 8 wks if needed and the amount taken off should be based on any damaged or shabby ends. So my stylist has been trimming my hair every 8 wks, taking off a half an inch no matter what? So no wonder I'm not seeing the growth as I should. Keep in mind though, she has never been trimming my hair like this until she had to cut it last year because of some damage. But now there is not damage. Why is she still trimming it every 8 wks as if it is damaged? I am going to confront her about this, but I wanted to get some more opinions so I'll have my knowledge together when I say something to her. I know its going to offend her so I want to have my stuff together...LOL! Is there anyone on GOLO who can help me with this?
I apologize for the long blog and any grammatical errors and misspellings!

So are you supposed to trim it no matter if there is damage or shabby ends? I thought that you trimmed it for that purpose. If the hair is healthy, why should there be any trimming? To me that is cutting it off for no reason. Ya know what I'm saying?
