If you met her at the GOLO anniversary party, chances are you liked her right away. And if you haven't met her, you'll want to after reading this interview. I'm talking about GOLO's own: Tesy. She's been a member in good standing since August 27, 2007, and is a woman of many talents.
GOLO, meet Tesy:
Angela: You are so friendly on GOLO and seem to be the life of the party.
Tesy: Good. I try.
Angela: Were you ever a party girl?
Tesy: Not really. I was really shy until tenth grade.
Angela: What changed in tenth grade?
Tesy: I’ve played the violin since I was 9, and played guitar since I was 11. In the tenth grade I realized that boys liked the girl who played guitar. After that I became more social and talked to more people.
Angela: Do you still play either instrument?
Tesy: Both are currently broken but I am going to start giving violin lessons to my friend’s son. I bought my own son a classical guitar for his 3rd birthday and most recently a keyboard.
Angela: So he’s musical as well?
Tesy: He is but he refuses to let me teach him how to do anything. That’s the way he is in life. Doesn’t want input just wants to do it.
Angela: Did he by any chance get that from his mom?
Tesy: Probably.
Angela: You’re pretty open on GOLO. You post pictures of yourself and sometimes your son. What do you say to people who freak out about that kind of thing?
Tesy: It’s very odd. A lot of people are very closed off about themselves and I know there have been situations where people misrepresent themselves. Sometimes I get that but people haven’t really said anything mean to me. My goal is to meet everyone who is my friend on GOLO.
Angela: Everyone? That’s a lofty goal.
Tesy: I’ve met a lot of people
Angela: How many?
Tesy: Quite a few. I’ve met a good 40 of my GOLO friends.
I am thinking about starting a coffee social once per month. I’m also going to start a girls night out.
Angela: It is very pleasing to me to hear that you are finding real friends on GOLO.
Tesy: It’s supposed to be a place where you go and make friends and get along. It’s a shame that people can go online and say such mean things to each other. It makes you wonder what kind of lives they lead at home.
Angela: Do we really want to know?
Tesy: Exactly. Maybe they are really repressed at home, or maybe that’s just the way they are. I think most people are good and have good intentions.
Angela: What would people find shocking about you?
Tesy: I don’t know. I put everything out there. It’s common knowledge that my son’s dad is gay and has been with his partner for three years.
(Pauses for a bit to think…)
Oh, and I read tarot cards. I’ve read them for 15 years.
Angela: Really?? Can you make money with that?
Tesy: I use it more as a form of prayer. I meditate and put the cards out. People will ask me to read their cards and I never charge them
Angela: Where do you get them? Is there a tarot card shop?
Tesy: The one deck that I use the most I had since I was 18. I bought myself a new one at Borders book store.
Angela: What do you learn from the Tarot cards?
Tesy: They lay out to you the events that are going on and the possible outcome and how you can change it if you want to. It more or less gives you advice.
Angela: When was the last time you read your cards?
Tesy: Yesterday at about 7 or 8pm. I kind of read them every day.
Angela: What did your cards say last night?
Tesy: They said that I am going to unexpectedly come into some money…which is nice, because I would like that to happen.
Angela: Do you honestly believe that?
Tesy: I hope that. I tend to do more accurate reading for others than I do myself, though. They usually look at me and they say: “That’s really scary.”
I told one woman that a guy she was seeing was going to dump her and she asked if she could beat him to it and she did.
Angela: Where do you see yourself in ten years?
Tesy: I’ll be 41. Hopefully I will have published a book by then. My goal is to do that by the time I’m 35. I would really like to write. I don’t see myself still waiting tables. I don’t know what kind of job I want to do. I still haven’t found my calling. I’d like to have a house and a yard. And my son will be driving and be off to college,
Angela: What kind of book are you going to write?
Tesy: I’ve written lots of memoirs. I think it’s going to seem like a series of short stories that tie together and people will not believe that it actually happened to someone. Unbelievable, unpredictable plot lines. That’s the way my life has always been.
Angela: Do you see that changing?
Tesy: No, but I think I will one day find out what the plot is. When my (ex) husband came out of the closet to me I told him I already knew and had known for years.
Angela: What’s the worst advice anyone ever gave you?
Tesy: People have given me a lot of advice in life and I really don’t listen to it. I very rarely take it because my mind is usually made up. Maybe because I’m an only child.
Angela: What’s the one thing you want to do before you die?
Tesy: I just want to be happy and maybe see my son grow up to be President.
Angela: Well what are you waiting for? Go read your cards and find out if it will happen!
Tesy: I can’t because I never go more than 3 months out. The professional tarot readers can do that, I can’t.
Angela: Bummer! So, do you think Miss Cleo was on the up and up?
Tesy: No. I could do that. I actually had a psychic network try to get me to come on board and I really didn’t feel comfortable. I did a few psychic fairs but I didn’t really like it. I had one old lady and I could pretty much tell that she was on her way out. I had a really bad feeling. Afterwards her family thanked me for being positive and not saying anything because she only had 3 months to live.
Angela: So maybe you do have the gift.
Tesy: Maybe. That’s my skill and talent and I don’t know how it translates to the real world.
Angela: Do you have any shout outs for your GOLO pals before you go?
Tesy: No, but Steelslinger wants me to plug the chicken group.
Angela: Of course he does. He is relentless about that group!
(We both laugh)
Angela: Thanks, Shoultesy. It’s been a pleasure.
Tesy: Thank you.
