When I was growing up, I used to see these Moravian stars at almost every house decorated for Christmas. Nowadays, I see one here and there, but they are definitely not as popular as they have been in the past. Maybe it depends on your neighborhood?

Do you have a Moravian star? Do you call it something else? My mom would always call it, "The Star of Bethlehem."

Star of Bethlehem. My ex-mother in law always put one up. I never could find one. This year I did find one at Walgreens in my hometown - Goldsboro,NC. Haven't put it up yet - haven't found the right time. LOL - just doesn't quite seem like Christmas yet for some reason.

javajoe...much appreciated. But seeing as how I haven't even found time to put up my tree yet...or shop...or bake, I think the last thing I'm going to find time for is to make a moravian star. Oh how I long for the days when life wasn't so horridly hectic.

I'll have to check when I get to my home computer. WRAL is the only thing that my company will let me have access to. Thanks for looking. I'll let you know.

iamac -- I've seen those directions before for the Moravian star ornaments! It looked simple, but I never tried it. I'll try to post a link to the directions if I can find them.

They really do, Bubble! I was in CVS and Walgreens last night. Walgreens seemed to be having a nice sale - I saw %-off signs everywhere on the Christmas aisle.

I have a Moravian Star tree ornament that a good friend made for me. She made it from paper and it's dipped in wax. Very beautiful. It's 3 dimensional, like oragomi(?sp.). I'm sure you could find the directions on line if you wanted. I would like to have several, just never thought of making them myself. The wax seems to help it hold up better. I've had it for 3 years now and it still looks fine. I am very careful about how I store it though.

The drug stores do seem to have a good supply of Christmas decorations. (in the past anyway, I haven't looked this year)
