I have a relative who recently went to the orthodontist and on the x-ray there was a spot in the bone. The orthodontist said that it is kinda like a mole on the skin, It is ok unless it starts getting bigger or changes shape. Has anyone ever heard of this? And if so, is there a name for it? Hope someone can help!

The other alternative would be to have it biopsied. That is probably a pretty drastic suggestion if the orthodontist thinks it's no big deal...but at least your relative would know for sure.

The best thing is to get the info from the orthodontist.

You could look up things on line and it will probably scare you and not be true.

Yes, the spot is in the lower jawbone- right in the front.

orthodontist or orthopedist? I guess if it were an orthodontist, then the spot is in the jawbone?

When the doctor told me I had a hernia, I asked for another opinion, he said okay you're ugly too.

Wow! Never heard of such a thing. I would do some research on-line if it were me. I would hate to find out years from now that this person has a bone disorder that could have been treated in earlier stages.

I've never heard anything similar before, but if your relative is comfortable with this orthodontist, it's probably right.
