fire rainbow over yellow river canyon
Published Nov. 30, 2008This is a fire rainbow - one of the rarest of all naturally occurring atmospheric phenomina.
The picture was captured Jun, 2006 on the Idaho/Washington border, following a display of Northern Lights lasting about an hour.
For this phenomon to occur, the clouds have to be cirrus, at least 20K feet in the air, with just the right amount of ice crystals, and the sun has to hit the clouds at precisely 58 degrees.
The beauty God provides for us earth-bound creatures never ceases to amaze and inspire.
