live christmas tree care

If you are getting a live tree please remember it needs a fresh cut on the bottom JUST BEFORE YOU PUT IT IN THE STAND.
You can get the folks that you bought the tree from to trim it for you, as long as you go straight home and put it in water.
If you let it set out for a while or over night, the sap will close the fresh cut (or hole) over. (This includes if you go shopping AFTER buying the tree)
You will need to cut it again.
Give it fresh water EVERYDAY. It will drink a lot in the first few days. Make sure it never runs dry.
Got your tree in the stand already? If you don't have decorations, take it out and CUT IT! NOW!!!
Decorated already? Find a way to drill holes in the tree, below the water line. (Ummm, don't drill in water...just drill below where the water line will be) Or you might could hammer in a few nails and take them back out. (don't hammer in all the way)
DON'T FORGET...FRESH CUT AND WATER EVERY DAY!!!

YOU WILL NEED TO CUT IT YOURSELF or make sure someone else does, JUST before you put in the stand!
