b.e.n.
Published Nov. 23, 2008I was in the Best Buy in Knightdale last night and noticed inside the door, that there was a huge box, covered with Christmas Paper, with the top open. It had a sign attached to it, saying that they were doing a FOOD DRIVE. I thought that was nice of them. Then, as I got closer, it said,
FOOD DRIVE for B.E.N. (I was thinking that this was an employee who maybe had had a horrible loss) Then I got a bit closer and saw that it said B.E.N.- Black Employee Network. I now have a question. Who is this food going to? Are only Black Employees of Best Buy participating? I have to say that I feel that this smacks of racism. If Best Buy wants to collect food for the Food Bank, where it goes to people who are in need, I have no problem, but the information on the side of this box is not well defined.
Moral of the story, while we all will probably be giving in to some charity over the holidays, please make sure that you know WHERE your gift will go. I would prefer that mine went to someone who is truly in need. And I do not want it going to just one race. (I guess so much for taking a village, unless the entire village is one race!)

I will assume that this B.E.N. organization is an Employee Network (charter) within Best Buy on a national corporate level, if that is the case, then the Christmas Box can sit where ever it wants.
I personally wish I could send food to the children in Haiti. I was immensely disturbed with the photos of emaciated children on the news this past week.
