are you worried about losing your job?

Hello GOLO:
I am becoming increasingly disheartened by the sheer number of people losing their jobs. Every blog I see about it posted here breaks my heart and the news continues. I just learned of more massive layoffs at my old employer, and given that I'm from Detroit, I know many many people who have been affected by the auto industry woes.
So what practical advice can we offer people who are finding themselves back in the job market? If you're in that position, what steps are you taking to find employment?
What if you haven't been in the job market for 20 years? Then what?
Are you worried about losing your job?
Let's use this space to talk about everything from starting your own business to networking to the importance of saving for a rainy day.

I make it a point to keep in touch with former co-workers. I don't want the next time I reach out to someone to be when I need a hand.

The have a ratio like that so they don't have to pay benefits ar severence when things like this happen.
