One More Time... NY Times Leaks Information on Secret Strikes Against Al-Qaeda

The New York Times' gives the Bush Administration the finger one last time...

The NY Times published another report on secret military operations today.
Of course, this information was fed to the paper by anonymous sources like all of the other secret operations they reported these last 8 years.
FOX News reported:

The U.S. military has conducted nearly a dozen secret operations against Al Qaeda and other terrorist groups in Syria, Pakistan and other countries since 2004, The New York Times reported Sunday night.

Citing anonymous U.S. officials, the Times story said the operations were authorized by a broad classified order that then-Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld signed and President George W. Bush approved in spring 2004. The order gave the military authority to attack Al Qaeda anywhere in the world and to conduct operations in countries that were not at war with the U.S.

One such operation was an Oct. 26 raid inside Syria, the Times reported. Washington has not formally acknowledged the raid, but U.S. officials have said the target was a top Al Qaeda in Iraq figure. Syria has asked for proof and said eight civilians were killed in the attack.

In another mission, in 2006, Navy SEALs raided a suspected terrorist compound in Pakistan's tribal areas.

The raids have typically been conducted by U.S. Special Forces, often in conjunction with the Central Intelligence Agency, the newspaper said. Even though the process has been streamlined, specific missions have to be approved by the defense secretary or, in the cases of Syria and Pakistan, by the president.

It will be interesting to see if these leaks continue during the Obama administration. They certainly damaged Bush.

oh, right, I forgot...the NYT has been working hand-in-hand to HELP the Bush adminsitration for the last 8 years...How could I have forgotten!?

"I don't understand why they can't get to the bottom of these leaks"

---

Leak enquiries are for conducting and compiling mountains of non-evidence to kill adverse press stories, not actually naming a culprit...i.e. "we've had a full enquiry and nothing untoward was found".

If you're serious about prosecuting a leak, you call in the Special Branch.

But no government will actually do this because it's too dangerous for them to do so because invariably the ship of state is unique in that it tends to leak from the top. And once you name one politician as the source of the leak, you run the risk of them naming all of the others.

That being said, has it truly been so long that our government officials don't understand the concept of "LOOSE LIPS SINK SHIPS"?!?

Any policy other than NO COMMENT on military or intel operations is just asking to get good men and women killed in very nasty ways and make it much harder to develop reliable intel in the future because they can't trust us!

i consider this an act punishable by death. and i think the government should be able to do away with the reporters and papers broadcasting these leaks. the government should be able to step in and do whatever is necessary to protect this country!!!!

Wanna get to the source of these leaks?

Turn these Special Ops guys loose on it on a covert mission. The culprits will show up at the bottom of a dumpster.

"i consider this an act punishable by death. and i think the government should be able to do away with the reporters and papers broadcasting these leaks. the government should be able to step in and do whatever is necessary to protect this country!!!!"

And while we're at it, we need to repeal that silly first amendment. After all, if we can't trust our government, who can we trust?

Hmmm. You don't see President Bush pulling any of the NYT's White House press privileges the way the Senator BHO's minions kicked reporters off his plane because their papers endorsed McPalin. This is going to be an interesting four years. And four years only.

"This is going to be an interesting four years. And four years only." Much of that depends on how the congress behaves...if they try to over-reach, there will sureley be a backlash...

ken d.: i'm aware of the first amendment. i have family in armed forces right now defending this country. i'm also aware of the definition of treason. and this my friend, is treason. it is endangering the lives of our soldiers and the safety of our country when operations are leaked. so as an american, i feel like if you dont love this country and want to protect it whether that be by enlisting or just keeping your trap shut, you should for one, MOVE and not return or two, you betray your own country in leaking operations...YES, IMO, that is deserving of death.

A military strike may well be a secret when it's in the planning stages, but once it comes off - provided it does come off - the secret is OUT.

I challenge even you, Tmedlin, to try to keep a military strike, with all the accompanying noise and bluster, a secret. Go ahead. Try it.

Egads....

well, fragment, why would you assume that all strikes are of the magnitude that you mention? trust me, some missions are of such stealth that they have not been reported. Aside from that, I take it you think posting classified information is fine... hell, you guys don't even want Barky's college grades posted! just be who you are - anti-Bush and anything he stands for...it's much more honest

Since some of these "alleged" black (or wet)ops took place in places were we "do not" have any forces....

Could it be our way of letting the rest of the bad guys know that no matter where they hide, we can find them and off them? It could also be a little bit of baiting, and see what moves where there should be nothing moving.

Of course, we can all just say it as a chorus..."It's Bush's Fault".

"The NYT is no better than a Socialist pamphlet handed out on a street corner by a Marxist agitator. It isn't fit for a bird cage." It's never been put quite as elegantly as that!!

And while we're at it, we need to repeal that silly first amendment. After all, if we can't trust our government, who can we trust? Ken D. This isn't about free speech. It's about socialist idiots who care nothing for the security of their own country. These no-thinkers might just be singing a different tune after 4 years of an Obama socialist/marxist administration.I , for one hope Mr.Barak Hussein Obama keeps NONE of his campaign promises.Maybe he's setting us up like Carter did , an incompetent administration paving the way for a second American Revolution!!

"YES, IMO, that is deserving of death. tarheelblue919"

So which person at Fox News do you think should be executed for reporting this? And since tmedlin also put this in print in a public forum, should she get the death penalty as well?
