Gun Sales up in Triangle

Raleigh, N.C. — Some Triangle shop owners report a steady increase in gun sales, which they credit to the struggling national economy.

This year so far, sales at the Personal Defense and Handgun Safety Center in Raleigh are up about 35 percent, owner Mike Tilley said.

“Probably most of this year we’ve seen sales and class attendance increase. In fact, our classes right now are so full that we’re suspending taking any reservations right now until November,” Tilley said.

Triangle area shop owners said when the economy’s down, the public perception of crime goes up.

“Crime is hitting home. It’s not just something you hear about on the news. It’s down the street and the next-door neighbors,” Tilley said.

Wayne Chase said he got a gun following several unexplained incidents, including a screen popped out of a window, at his home. He now practices with his gun up at least once or twice a week.

“A lot of my friends and family alike have been…looking into gun sales when they usually wouldn’t even think about owning a gun,” Chase said.

Tilley said business is also booming for Tasers and other weapons.

“People are afraid and they know that the only person responsible for their own protection is themselves and so they’re looking for ways to do it,” Tilley said.

LOL Sigil..."You've got people who fear increased crime due to the econcomy, then those who are setting up militias in case Obama wins." I would venture there are just as many if not more militias being set up in the event Obama loses. Think about it.

It's not just having guns for self defense in the home, to be able to protect my loved ones and myself, but I just enjoy shooting. There is a degree of satisfaction in learning how to shoot properly and accurately. And the more one shoots, the more comfortable you are, and the more automatic your actions will be in the event you are compelled to take up that firearm in the protection of your family and home. I would say if one is not willing to make an educated purchase and receive instruction along with a substantial amount of practice , some other sort of home defense may be better. Like a hammer or bat. Personally I like the idea of being able to hit an intruder at a distance further than a bat or hammer can reach...but that's just my take on it. ;)

I don't think I could ever shoot anyone, so it would be money wasted for me. And I would not own a gun with children in the house.

I think it was because they heard Russia had invaded Georgia . . .

Not so odd. You've got people who fear increased crime due to the econcomy, then those who are setting up militias in case Obama wins.

Interesting!

But isn't that odd. Or is it potential burglers setting up to clean us out???

God bless.

I own a gun & I hope I never have to use it. For the most part, my neighbors know of it too. Once in a while, I go out to back yard & remind the neighborhood that I still have my guns with target practice. A benefit of living in the country.

By chance if someone try's to steal something from here & they make it past the 'dawg', I'll be ready.

Remember Little Richard's role in the movie "Down and Out in Beverly Hills?"

There's another reason people buy guns...yes to protect defensively, but also to go on the offensive and get what you need.

The biggest reason, I think, is that you can protect you money by investing in a gun and ammo. Inflation proof, real value, and pretty safe too, barring someone stealing them.

Look at the sales of gun vaults.

the leftists are planning a new approach to gun control by claiming that the 2nd amendment doesn't include ammo...so people are stocking up now. I also heard something about Obama wanting ammo to be registered...but I haven't had time to investigate.

OldRebel, I have to admit that I have 4 packages of the 250 count 1/4" steel hunting shot for mine sitting right here at the door.
