a question for our resident gasbag
Published Oct. 7, 2008Why, after having these people you are so concerned about in what amounts to prison for the last 6 or 7 years, would DOJ suddenly need extra time to evaluate its case against them?
Could it be that they don't have one to begin with? I mean really, how long does it take to build a case and bring someone to trial?
Nah, enough's enough. If we have enough evidence to justify having held these people for years, then we should have enough to get them in front of a judge, now, and try them on it. If we don't, it's past time that they went free.
Your buddy McCain apparently agrees with that sentiment: ""I'd close Guantanamo Bay and I'd declare that we never torture another person in American custody."
As he so eloquently said, "It's not about who they are. It's about who WE are."

We hold people for YEARS and use torture to elicit "confessions". We are NO longer looked at as the model standard.
Thanks to Dubya for THAT.

And on that point I agree as well. I just think holding people indefinitely without charging them with anything is not what this country stands for. If they can't be tried, then send them back where they came from (in this case, China).

Of course, there are some that think that waterboarding is *merely* "enhanced interrogation" and is perfectly acceptable, but it isn't to me. And anyone who thinks that we should *lower* our standards and treat human beings worse than animals has some real issues.

And I agree with him.
