halloween...not!

Published Oct. 7, 2008

We don't do halloween anymore. We just eat out, stay late and when we get home we keep the lights off. It wasn't always this way. Halloween was a highlight of my life. Even as a grown up I loved halloween.

Here's why I don't do it anymore.

In the room of horors there was everything I could imagine. perhaps the best gag was spaghetti colored brown like worms which those entering saw someone eating like worms. We had a hangman's noose that was always a hit when someone put his head in and pretended to be hanging.

That gag proved fatal one halloween when I was not there. There was no one to supervise the room of horrors. One kid, 13 years old, placed his head in the noose and leaned forward to make it seem more real. in doing so he managed to put just enough pressure on the carotid arteries on both sides. This in turn stopped blood flow to the brain. when he was found unresponsive the rescue was called but it was too late.

THE END OF HALLOWEEN FOR ME AND MINE!!

BTW this function was sponsored by a small country church.

Please understand that this is an unfortunate event that happened on halloween.

Halloween is still a great time for the kids. Churches have initiated a different kind of celebration and that is allright too.

BUT IT IS ALL FOR THE KIDS. AND LET IT HAPPEN FOR THEM EITHER WITH OR WITHOUT GHOSTS AND GOBLINS!

My house is a safe haven for my kids

I remember when I was a little kid I watched the excorcist and I was scared for days...now that is not a good feeling. Why would we want that for our kids.

We don't tell our kids about monsters and demons. They grow up scared enough as it is. We try to not to scar them for life.

Con....my church does the same thing almost...you can where whatever costume you want as long as it doesn't deal with demons and witches and the like. We don't take the whole holiday fun out...just the evil aspect and we buy our candy from stores and we don't go to neighborhoods and eat their candy and we have games. It is very fun.

Con Amor-thats a nice idea! My aunt was going to a church and they said halloween was evil etc.. But they did not do anything like yours is to give a alternative for the kids. This is a great idea. In our area with people being so mean alot of the kids go to the fair! It happens to always be running around halloween night every year!

Con! Too funny. Make them pray for their candy! Don't you know kids are doing that whether you are standing over them or not!

Thanks cuz. I, in no way, was trying to say that people who enjoy Halloween are bad. I just made it known what we do on that day. We dont stand over the kids and make them pray for their candy or anything like that. It is simply a fun filled night, where no scary or evil costumes are alowed. The kids get to dress up (as an animal from Noahs Ark, or a person from the bible) and have lots of fun and games and treats.

When and where did this happen?

My hubby said this happened to a kid he knew.

He isn't home right now, so I don't have more details.

For Halloween I take my kids around to family and a few friends homes just so pictures can be taken. Then we go to my church where they have games and a cake walk. They get more candy there than having to waste my gas going door to door.
