what's up with johnston county?
Published Oct. 7, 2008Apparently Johnston County is opening up a special courtroom today to handle nothing but DWIs. They seem to have 1,400 cases backlogged on their court docket.
Think about this.
Johnston County has about 108,000 adults over the age of 18. And about 14,000 of them are over 65. Yet they have 1,400 PENDING cases of DWI in that one county.
That's 1.3 percent of the adult population that has been cited for DWI. That does not include any whose cases were already tried or those who simply have not gotten caught.
Just what is wrong with those folks down there?

Probably part of the reason, and about time, too!

No more kid gloves for drunk drivers or child molesters.
If there isn't enough room in our prisons, get the inmates to help build more by offering priviledges, instead of just letting them have them outright.
God bless.

OTOH, the very high number of illegals, and most likely repeat offenders, who reside in the Johnston County area and have a "different" view of driving around the local roads after a few beers could be the reason for such a large number of DWI arrests.
As others have noted, a few ICE personnel in the DWI courtroom could make things interesting!

Also, I know that some of the adjoining counties make their police officers go to court on their own time (unpaid), which makes it easier for lawyers to keep asking for a continuance until they get a court date that the arresting officer can't make. I don't know if it's the same thing for Johnston county, but that would answer a lot of questions about the number of DWI's occurring there.
