wanted: fiscal conservatives

Published Oct. 6, 2008

We're broke (sorry,"Broke", that definitely deserves a capital B), yet both candidates for President advocate continuing our habits of spending far more money than the government receive in the form of taxes. And in fact, things are so bad, it appears that the Democratic candidate has the slightly more fiscally "responsible" spending and taxation plan this year - though to be clear, neither Obama nor McCain will come remotely close to improving our financial standing, if their stated plans come to pass.

In government, as in life, too much debt forces us to choose between bad choices. Responsible spending coupled with modest savings gives us flexibility, and allows us to make good choices, rather than being forced into actions we'd rather not take.

How come no one cares about fiscal responsibility anymore? I've come to expect tax and spend behavior from the Democrats, but even the Republican party, who in the (not very recent) past were dependably conservative when it came to fiscal measures, seem to have totally abandoned any pretense of moderation in government spending. Are we so worried that Obama will turn us into a socialist state, or that McCain will turn us into a military theocracy, (or any other number of possible partisan horror scenarios) that we're willing to overlook the fact that either candidate is very likely to lead us even deeper into financial ruin? Apparently so. What gives? I want a solvent government!

Not so dumb, truly your not living up to your name. It is either one way or the other.. You claim and defend the GOP on the economic issue, evidence is presented and now you still want to claim that they could fix the problem? political process.... Even a Dem - Bill Clinton, former president said that HE could not do anything either. Whether you want to believe it or not, the President is not the main man to where he can snap his fingers and things happen - wrong country I think your looking for China or Iran.

"Can anyone tell me how much per day we're spending over there??" - earlier post

More that you or I make in several years....!!

TheWB - I guess you missed the part about how Republicans controlled House, Senate and the White House at the time, so they could have fixed the problem had they wanted to.

jointhere - "http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QBRIsCkGQ0"

So one party was wrong and the other did nothing. Great stuff from the so called leadership.

The Fair Tax is the best solution to the nation's fiscal woes. Not only would it simplify the nation's tax code and bring businesses back to America, it would be the single largest transfer of power from the government to the people. It's revenue neutral, meaning there would be no increase in the price of goods you buy now.

People would have more spending power, Congress can't hold the constant threat of taxes over our heads, the increased revenues will help with Social Security and Medicaid, illegals and drug dealers will finally be taxed when they purchase items...the list goes on and on...

But, voters think they can't change anything and will continue to vote in people who will spend our money like drunken sailors.

Vince I think you hit on probably the ROOT issue with that one.

"sure the party that embraces, encourages, and directly solicits the votes of convicted felons is going to put "the moral character of this nation back in place"..."

lol...tmed preaching about morals. funny stuff.

in case that is not enough check this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiEWCnpNnBQ&feature=related

especially the end part.. When Mr. Clinton says his part.
